well said... but microsoft might give it a push too, to kill nintendo with their 3rd party...
but if they put on a 4 gig with a much cheaper console, now they could turn the table against sony being too expensive again like the ps3 era, until the technology catch up, until the pocket catch up, until a price cut has been implemented

Microsoft wont deny third parties the 8GB of ram they demanded.

you work in the gaming industry? how did you know they demand it?

its like saying game industries demanded blu ray last gen

I have been talking about the 8GB of ram since way before PS4 launch because the devs stated they wanted Microsoft and Sony to have it. Ives from Ubisoft had been hounding Microsoft and Sony for newer tech because of the decline in power and sales this gen.

but that is not demanding it...

most likely microsoft will have 4-8 gig

but on the stand point of their business mind we are not really sure...

if they want to F*ck up sony, they could pull a 2 gig for wii u and now developers would start making games for 2 gig since it has more market for both console combined.... like i said, i am pretty sure they will boost their gigs but if microsoft wants to mess sony (because they sharethe same market) then they could go that route

Theres no way the WIi U could put full 2GB use on the console. At best it could 1.5.

microsoft pulling a 2 gig to be closer to nintendo... so developers would focus on both consoles since they will have more market combined.... we are talking about microsoft not wii u... i said for Wii U not Wii U will pull a 2 gig

Nintendo said it themselves, they aren't trying to compete with Microsoft and Sony yet took risks in the development for the Wii U. When Reggie gets cornered by news anchors about the rumored specs of the next gen consoles he said "oh lets wait and see" and guess what? it happened.Microsoft unlike Nintendo knows better and will listen. The WIi U is closer to the 360.

wii u has like 1,5 GB of very efficient RAM available for games and the memory the others have doesn't change how much RAM a game needs. it's an exaggeration to think a home console game will actualy need 3 to 4 GB. i can only see devs using more than that if they don't optmize the code too much.

There is an ongoing discussion on how WiiU will handle PS4 games if PS4 is using 7 gig of RAM and Wii U has 1 available.  The answer really is the 720.  Developers are going to want to make games hit as many consumers as possible.  XBox also has a lot of support from western developers as a primary platform. The amount of RAM used for games on 720 will significantly impact the rest of the industry.

Rumors have circulated that 720 would have 4 gig for OS and 4 gig for games.  If this is the case, the extra 3 gig available for games on PS4 is largely irrelevant for multiplats as developers will want the games to run on 720 as well.

If a game can run on 4, can it run on 1?  Maybe.  PS2 ran the same games as XBox with half the RAM.  25% may be enough with some compromises.

In the end the market will decide what is enough RAM and processing power.  If WiiU sells a lot of units, and 720 is using 4 gig then few developers will design games to push the PS4's 7 gig available.  It's just like Blizzard's strategy with WoW, desigining it to be played on as many systems as possible.  And speaking of PC games, that will also be relevant as most multiplats are PC as well so developers will want the game to be able to hit as many of those systems as they can too.

If 720 surprises and goes with say, 12 gig of RAM with 8 available for games, this will have a negative impact on Wii U support, and Wii U will have to be an extremely viable platform to get continued 3rd party multiplats.

Dude 1 GB is no where near enough to even compete with 3GB's.  Here is the probably breakdown of the Consoles:

PS4: 2-3GB for textures + 4-5GB for system depending on game.

720 (Assuming only 5GB available): 1-1.5GB textures + 3.5-4GB system RAM.

Wii U: 256-384MB for textures + 640-768MB system.

The Wii U can have no where near the texture size or diversity of textures even the 720 can have, and the 720 is far weaker (Rumored) than the PS4.  I see no reason why the 720 would need more than 2GB for the OS; so 3 is generous, but then again the weaker GPU probably only needs half the RAM the PS4's needs.

@bold. Tell that to the gameboy, tell that to the DS. You know, the only reason why this necessity for high specs for home consoles is because the industry (3rd parties) are requiring it, and because Nintendo has to compete with two wealthy competitors. Otherwise Nintendo wins with their strat, hands down.

This gen will definitely push scale that has been holding back PC and consoles havent seen before. If you keep thinking about next gen as something familiar then we are truly under an illusion.

Then you know nothing about how computers work.  First of all the Wii U's RAM is about half as fast as the PS3's so idk what is so "Efficient" about it.  Second of all, the PS4's GPU is easily capable of 2-3GB of textures and those aren't lazy, they just take up space.  After that you do need at least 4GB of system RAM to feed the beast fast enough.   It's just how things work, and it is why open world games like Fallout look like PS2 games on this gen, and not on PC  (Even a really weak PC looks better than PS360 with Fallout/Skyrim): they don't have enough RAM.

Nintendo barely has any real competition from handheld competition. They've enjoyed almost exclusive domination and thats the only way they've ever stayed ontop of anyone. The demand for Nintendo handhelds is bigger than their consoles which have always played second fiddle. Nintendos third party is intact and mostly Japanese because again the Japanese havent enjoyed staying behind and making the same games. To most Japanese devs pushing tech to get newer experiences isn't the most important thing. Its not really about Nintendos strategy its just a lack of competition with compelling games.

You were talking about knowing better, as if giving in to performance demands was the "right' thing for some reason. The market is asking for something that simply is unreasonable, and the Nintendo and the old playstation strategy has always proven that wrong, 7th gen is the only exception because both Sony and MS pushed for more, in line with 3rd parties.

It's only a matter of competition when the competition forces the hand of the market in a direction that itself cannot sustain. As such it will be "knowing better" until the whole thing collapses on itself.

If you're not in it to make money, you're bound to lose it. Simple mathematics and economics.

know better? thats highly subjective.... yeah microsoft shouldve known better in mobile, and if ps4 outsell 360 and they shouldve known better... they shouldve known better with their fading market in their PC sales.... right? known better???????

liek i said they will boost their gig, but there is a chance to change their approach to gaming...to possibly hurt sony....

if they do... it would be like a honda and toyota... and ps4 will be a ferrari... they are expensive and powerful, but dont have the general market

He who controls the third parties controls the true mass of the market. 160+ consoles between the PS3 and 360 by the end of this year. Microsoft will cut the cost of the 360 even more and hinder the WIi U even more. As little as that should mean in America the doors will get knocked down at retail stores because the 360 has only dropped by $100 in price since the 360 launched. Thats crazy.
