So many great titles out there and 4 COD games got 10m copies... this is just embarrassing.

And they are all American Made, 'Merica styled, First Person Shooters makes me lol.
Still, congrats on the sales.
Lol this just makes me laugh at all the PS kids who say the Xbox is a shooter box lawlzzzzzz.
The fact that a system that has a ton of great exclusives has no exclusives in this club is really sad. People can bash Nintendo all they want, but at least their big exclusives always post massive numbers.
| Majora said: Yeah yeah ok. CoD is everyone's game of choice. It's just so popular they makes calendars clocks birthday cards mugs t shirts Easter eggs houses helicopters and moons with CoD on. CoD is also exclusive to one system and sells regularly above 10 million, and has sold over 20, even 25 million copies. One iteration of CoD still sells 5/6 years after release and is consistently in the top |
Couldn't have said it any better myself. I was just too scared to post it... 'tis scary around these parts... ya know with all the CoD fans here.

Thanks! I'm just sticking up for us Nintendo fans. I mean don't get me wrong when things go well for other systems I'm all for it and of course think its worth celebrating/mentioning. But anyone disputing who is THE face of gaming just for a success to seem more triumphant than it is makes it annoying. Everyone on here who isn't a Nintendo fan likes to bash Nintenso, downplay its successes or make outlandish claims. History is not a few good years of sales of a multi platform franchise.
Hey I am a ps fan and I am the first who used mario and pokemon about the bs claims of cod being the biggest gaming franchise in history. Not all of us are like that. I love nintendo as I grew up with pokemon and love Sony since I grew up with ps1, and ps2 and still love that they keep their gaming roots. MS oth couldn't care less about gamers. Sony's ps division is run by gamers, and Sony's ceo came from the PlayStation division so I can tell which company cares more about what gamers want. Even a developer who left microsoft said that the xbox division is a mess and run by guys in suits (corporate shills).

Since when are we talking about "THE face of gaming"?
We're talking about which franchise is currently the most popular and that's Call of Duty. And we're using revenues to come to a conclusion because that's probably the most objective way of comparing something's success. Mario is big but not Call of Duty big. Call of Duty's popularity may or may not fade with time (depending on how the franchise is handled in the future) but it undeniably influenced a whole generation that will in many case remember it more than Mario. Let the future tell the truth.
And considering that the CoD series is on Nintendo consoles too I don't see why praising its success is going against Nintendo...
I don't even know why Nintendo was brought in a PS3 sales discussion anyway.

not even close
hell even on youtube mario has more videos and views than any cod video on youtube. Ask anyone what mario is and they will know.
Mario is something everyone grew up with. Mario kart alone sold 33 million, which is far more than any call of duty game ever.
Mario will never die out. Call of duty will get stale really soon and we even see battlefield gaining more attention and with gta v there is no place but down for call of duty.
Also the revenue excuse is bs. Mario sells more in a year than call of duty does. No one gives a shit about revenue except corps. We are talking about which is a bigger more popular franchise and COD is not that. GTA, Mario, Pokemon have bigger gaming cultures than does call of duty PERIOD.

Dude, I don't care which of Mario or Call of Duty has the biggest brand recognition. It has nothing to do with anything. We're talking about current relevance, not past glories. And besides that comparison is futile considering that Mario is just "Mario" whereas Call of Duty holds many names: "Call of Duty", "CoD", "MW2", "MW3", "Modern Warfare", "Black Ops", "BO2", "World at War", etc.
Mario Kart Wii did amazing indeed but it's not like the franchise gets a yearly release to stop it from having legs. You're wrong though about Call of Duty not selling more than 33 million. Modern Warfare 3 is only 1.5 years old and already sold at least 32 million (probably more), without being bundled. That has to mean something to you.
Mario has been around for 20 more years than Call of Duty. Obvioulsy more people will know about it.
And as I said, let the future tell the truth.
