Pikmin 3 to me, will be a 20 bucks bargain bin game.

And it won't take much time to hit that bin.

You do realize this is a Nintendo game right?

They never gonna drop in price lolz.

Pikmin 2 has more varied gameplay and greater things to do, but Pikmin 1 is where the atmosphere is.

Basically, in Pikmin 1, you've crashed landed on a planet and have to use Pikmin to recover lost pieces of your ship to get home before your time limit is up (30 days, I think). It's very strategic and you have to be able to micromanage multiple tasks to get everything done during the day. Bosses can get very difficult.

Pikmin 2 was good, but it did away with the time limit which took away from the experience. Also, while the a surface levels were fun, the dungeons sucked. However, they're both good game and I'd recommend picking them up if you can find them before playing Pikmin 3.

This was a really interesting post because it almost exactly sums up my experience with the Pikmin series.  And it's rare to see, because the general opinion seems to be that the second game is miles better.

Pikmin 1 is one of my favourite games of all time.  It just has this incredible atmosphere of discovery in an alien world; but on the backdrop of being on a fixed time limit so you can repair your ship and find your way home.  I really, really enjoyed it.

The second game was still an exceptionally good title, but I felt it never really recaptured that lightning-in-a-bottle that the first game did.  I much preferred exploring the overworld than exploring the dungeons, so it was a big disappointment for me that so much time was spent in them.  The removal of the time limit took away some of the urgency of the game too.

But anyway, @ OP, I'd personally recommend playing the first Pikmin game now before trying the new game.

Pikmin is some sort of strategy-puzzler. You have to increase the number of different Pikmins by bringing stuff back, that they use to produce seeds. And your main objective is to bring stuff to your spaceship (in the first one lost parts of the ship, in the second trash that counted as a valuable object for people from Olimars planet). This is sometimes difficult and you have to overcome different obstacles (that may include enemies to defeat), to get the stuff back.So a combination of strategy and puzzle in my opinion. Works very well.

I loved both Pikmin games...
I payed back the debt in Pikmin 2, but I still have to save Louie...
A lot of people think the first Pikmin is harder than the sequel because of the thirty day limit, but I think Pikmin 2 is way harder...
The caves can be a pain in the butt, and I wish the purple and white Pikmin had their own onions...

Have a nice day...

Played both Pikmins on Wii. Absolutely great games. Beating the story is rather easy, but that's not the end of the game and there is a lot more to do that requires a good amount of strategy.

I'll be getting Pikmin3 day one regardless of what else is launched.
