Forums - General - The get hungry thread! (post your favorite food!)

Ah, that reminds me.  Does anyone else here like Ethopian food?

And no, I'm not kidding.  It's a real cuisine that uses all sorts of spices, everything is served on a large communal tray, and you get to eat with your hand with something like a pancake!  Many of the spices remind me of good Indian food, but used differently and on different things.

I have taken many people on cuisine adventures to try it, and most all like it.

You grab a piece of the Injera it to pick from the different foods, then eat the entire thing with your hands.  I really like the different flavors of lentils, fish, lamb, curries, collards, cabbage, pumpkin, etc.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Do you have an electric mixer? If so, making your own dough is super easy, and fast.

Fast Home Made Pizza Crust

Makes 1 thick crust or 2 thin crusts.

What you need:

Flour - 3 Cups

Warm water - 1 Cup + 3 Tbsp

Yeast Fast Rise - 1 Tbsp

Sugar - 1 tsp

Optional:

Olive Oil - 2 tbsp or less, but at least 1 tsp

Salt - 1 or 1/2 tsp depending on your taste

What do do:

Poor the warm water into your electric mixer. Add the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes or until it starts to show bubbles and signs of activating. Now add the other ingreadiants and mix using a heavy beater or kneeding hook attachment for your mixer. Beat about 20 times or until you have a single lump of dough. At water or flour depending on if it is too dry or too wet.

Remove from mixer and on a floured surface roll out your pizza crust and tansfer it to a pan. Cover with a light cotton towel and let it sit and rise for about 15-20 minutes.

At this point you can make your pizza. I usualy bake just the crust to finish rising until it starts to firm up. I then remove it from the oven, add the sauce, cheese, herbs and what not and then bake.

Of course you can use any sauce and topings you want. That's the beauty of pizza.

No I don't, the kitchen in my apartment is tiny, I can't even fit my microwave on the table (it's on the floor, where there should be a cabinet, but I guess they wanted more legroom).

LOL

When I make pizza, I usually just use bread, not the best, but it still tastes good. If I have to make dough, I do it by hand, or buy it pre-made, but pre-made dough is only good to eat for a couple days.

Thanks for the tip though.

Well you can still make my recipe without a mixer. It just takes hand kneading which I find tedious. Once you go mixer, you never go back.

I've made stuff like this before, I just don't do it commonly.

LOL, I've made perogies from scratch before, but it takes like 3 hours to prepare and bake it right. It's damn worth it, but usually when I'm hungry, I take frozen ones and fry them.

So I only take time to cook when I have people coming over. If it's just for myself, I usually don't put so much effort. I usually eat pasta/rice dishes, since they are so quick to cook, and I make my own sauce.

Usually, when I cook pizza, I just use bread for the crust lol, still tastes a lot better then store bought. I mean to warm up an oven, just cut cheese, onions, mushrooms, and some sliced meat, and put it all together? So easy. I usually have some extra alfredo sauce from pasta which I put in a jar, and I use that as a base sauce, but if I'm feeling really lazy, I use ranee ceasar dressing. That stuff is so good.

LOL, I only cook fancy stuff when people come over. If you want a good recipe book, try epicurious.com

Yea, I've had ethiopian food before, real ethopian food, when I went to Africa. I'm not a fan. I don't like spicy food, and I know ethiopian isn't spicy spicy, but it's just got a weird taste to it.

However Ethiopean food in Canada and USA is nothing like the food in Africa, the meat here just isn't suited for that style of food, it's too soft and fatty. In Africa it made sense, I wouldn't want to eat Pizza in Africa, and at the same token, I don't want to eat Ethiopian.

However I'm Ukrainian, and we mostly only eat Root vegetables like Potatos, Beats, Onions, Carrots, etc. I suppose I just prefer blander, more wholesome foods. That said I love foods with lots of garlic, and onions.

Dammit.....now I want to make my own perogies.....

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I have no idea why I came into this thread knowing that I was hungry and still not wanting to get out of bed. :-/

Favorite food? Not sure... Usually I say yogurt (mainly strawberry). However, I love ice cream cake, ribs, steak, sesame chicken and strawberry rhubarb pie.

Haven't not been to Ethiopia I have no idea how authentic it is.  I do go to a 'pocket community' called 'Little Ethiopia' where many people are from there.  They have many restaurants, stores, community things, etc.  I know they import most of their spices, but it could easily lose some fire on that long journey. They seem to like it.

I would rate Taco Bell ‘Fire’ sauce as hot.  A have a friend that loves hot spicy food.  He will sit and snack on hot peanuts – where one will ruin my whole day it is so hot.  Hot and Spicy Thai food is never hot enough for him. I want to get him some Ghost Peppers and see how he likes them.

I like many root vegetables too, but I noticed you were missing Parsnips! How can you neglect Parsnips?

What about Jerusalem Artichoke or Sunchoke?  Yuka root?  It is really good fried and dusted with cheese (had it at a Brazilian Restaurant).  What are some other good roots to eat?
