imagine if we stuck with the same hardware sincle the n64 era, that would be boring as hell a huge upgrade in power keeps things fresh, games get better with the tech also.

There is definitely something special about playing a game for a next-generation system. The newness of it all is intoxicating :)

But I would dispute the second part of your post. I'm not sure if games are improving as technology gets better. If the industry was trapped in time in 1998 with N64, Saturn, and Playstation hardware, it wouldn't be such a bad thing. Developers could focus on refining the mechanics in their games, and worry less about state-of-the-art graphics, sound, lighting, physics, etc.

This is just the same bullshit narrative of Xbox is doomed they've been putting out for years. First the 360 was doomed because of RROD and all the core gamers were going to jump to PS3. Then it was when Kinect was announced and they claimed the 360 was doomed because "Microsoft was turning its back on core gamers" and they were all going to jump to PS3. Add to that the threads where they try to portray Xbox Live as a sinking ship with everyone cancelling their accounts.

Anyone that was stupid enough to eat it up years ago must have had a rude awakening when the 360 started its dominance of the North American sales charts or when Microsoft releases a new statement indicating that Xbox Live has increased its numbers and has broken some record.

They are of course having a field day with the next system but the funny part it that the amount of success the brand has seems to be proportional to their amount of doom bullshit so it wouldn't be surprising if the next Xbox is a runaway success.

New gameplay gets to me more than high tech graphics though.

For me, the motion controls of Wii Sports Resort felt more "next gen" than any PS3/360 game.

And I don't agree about games getting better with more power; I've been gaming since the SNES, and today's games aren't any better.

well from my understanding no other system has been cornered as needing to be online all the time either, and that is the difference. M$ hasnt said anything, and the things that have come from people internally have been pointing to it being true and M$ not saying anything just kinda seems to confirm it, turning off the masses.

No, the Next Box has received the most negative press of any console release so far. I have no doubt Microsoft will blow us away at E3 though, it is just a pity the rumours and leaks have been god awful. If they all turn out to be true, god help the console.

Given the reaction of Microsoft's PR, I'd say the rumours are definitely coming from somewhere. You're right about the bigger picture possibly being better.

i really dont know, but this is all good for the xbox, bad publicity is still publicity. the next gen xbox has been on the headline of all gaming news these past couple of weeks, the unofficial unannounced console has been getting more media attention than the announced PS4 these past couple of weeks

Theres a valuable lesson that you learn in PR: Silence is never the answer.

Its funny to see such a big company making such a crucial mistake.
