new games are great, but nothing beats the feeling of being completely blown away from a new nextgen console my best memories mario sonic the hedgehoge and street of rage 2. mario 64 , golden eye, zelda, sonic adventure, MGS2 and GT3 gears of war and red dead redemption
imagine if we stuck with the same hardware sincle the n64 era, that would be boring as hell a huge upgrade in power keeps things fresh, games get better with the tech also.

There is definitely something special about playing a game for a next-generation system. The newness of it all is intoxicating :)
But I would dispute the second part of your post. I'm not sure if games are improving as technology gets better. If the industry was trapped in time in 1998 with N64, Saturn, and Playstation hardware, it wouldn't be such a bad thing. Developers could focus on refining the mechanics in their games, and worry less about state-of-the-art graphics, sound, lighting, physics, etc.
