The Wii U is wedged in between the PS3/360 and PS4/720 in terms of hardware and features, it is currently competing with the PS3 and 360 and will face two other competitors as well come the holidays.
The PS3 and 360 will also ensure that the PS4 and 720 won't sell a whole lot in their first 6-12 months either, genereation transitions are almost always like this.
This one is special since it ends with the market leader being at the very bottom and the 2nd and 3rd place consoles still having a fierce battle and doing very well for "losing" hardware, which means that the current gen will steal all the more attention and thunder from the 8th gen.

Now, if the OP's assumption was true (its not, not even remotely), why is the Wii U moving so slowly without any competition and what makes people think that more competition will somehow help it move more quickly?

I agree with the core gamer part, but either A) there is not as much of us as either you or I believe OR b) they simply dont give a damn about WIi U for the most part and are choosing NOTHING. I dont have an issue with Wii U but as a next gen console 7 years later, its doing a crappy job of showing its next gen and no a tablet controller is not gonna cut it.


I get what you are saying man, and to me, the people buying PS3s and Xbox360 right now are part of the ever expanding market of gaming, they are old timers returning to gaming, people who got jobs and now can afford to game again, parents introducing their kids to gaming, casuals that now want to play real video games and girls wanting to dance to MOVE and KINECkt.

To the NEXT GEN MARKET, the WiiU is the only option right now, I mean, why would I buy another PS3 or Xbox360? Mine still work fine.

I mean, if you guys think it is hardball to the WiiU right now, just expect october, IT WILL BE FULL ON BLOODBATH, I men, it will be freaking consoles WAR.

That is my point man, the WiiU has no competition yet from the other next gen beasts, if it looks bleak now, at october it will be freaking HELL. Nintendo has to hurry up if they mean business with the console.

Nintendo isn't benefiting from the 6-8 month window. They hoped for strong sales, but we see that is not the case. I have the feeling, like many do, that it's going to be more of a slaughter once PS4/Xbax490 are released, as opposed to a 'war.'

Someone will be gutted like a stock pig.

PS2 is the best so it doesn't matter

Re: Xbox 360, it was supply constrained, meaning they couldn't get enough onto shelves to meet demand.  This is not an issue with the Wii U.

Re: PS3, it was $599 in 2006.  With the official (yet low ball) estimate of 3% inflation per year that would mean that the PS3 was around $720 in 2013 dollars.  That's more then double the price of the Wii U premium console.

Yes, it's a different ecconomic environment now, but the PS3 & Xbox continue to move healthy numbers of units every week while the Wii U largely continues to be ignored, even at a price in the same range as the others, around $300.
