Forums - PC - PC Gaming Irrelevant or Relevant?!

The lack of Team Fortress 2 being mentioned worries me.

And no, the not updated 360 version doesn't count.

I really don't think exclusives are why you would or would not choose PC gaming, unless you are particularly into RTS's and simulators. PC gaming is a different experience to consoles, I prefer PC gaming as the controls tend to be tighter in games and more indepth, graphics are higher quality, many games have huge modding communities and portability of games is pretty good as long as you avoid shit like steam though that is pretty hard to do on PC gaming nowadays. On the downside PC gaming is more expensive for hardware, requires a lot more tweaking and tuning as games are not written specifically for your equipment.

1) Minecraft (don't even mention 360), every RTS, tons of indie titles.
2) I don't care how steam/origin makes their prices so low, but they do. I got Battlefield 3 for $12. It still costs $25 used on the ps3 because you have to get an online pass.
3) When a new console comes out, it tends to be great price per performance and it slowly degrades over time. So consoles pps vs pc is probably about the same at this point.
I think both are viable right now, but console's days may be numbered.

I'm not sure how anyone could argue that a market worth $20 billion a year is not relevant. Here have some massive infographics

A little outdated (missing quite a few titles)

PC gaming is no threat to console gaming outside of taking a few core gamers. Its not marketably viable to ask people to make a rig to game, while still missing out on 15-25% of the major games exclusives each console has to offer. PC wont cover that and thats why some PC gamers just do both. Free to play and casual games are where PC gaming is making a huge comeback though outside of Steam and Blizzard. Dont need a demanding computer to do those things.

That's actually what I was going against. I said regardless if the PC version has better support, better visuals, and a better community with mods it's still on 360 AND PS3. Same with Half-Life I want exclusives not found on any console I don't care if the port that's on consoles is inferior it's still on a console.

Most of the those PC exclusives are outdated shovelware IMO none of them get praise most of them are titles that come out and are forgotten hours upon release. PC exclusives don't get as much coverage as console exclusives and they don't get the same praise.

For instance Red Dead Redemption is considered if not and I think it is the best game this generation and No im not saying that because it's not on PC, im saying that because it is. I own a PC and it would be great to have it on PC,but where is RDR for PC? PC is getting snubbed from some of the best games ever.

I'm not gonna quote Zarx's monster picture but to compare LoL's playerbase which is a FREE game to other games playerbases that require a purchase and subscription fees....

Is kinda biased.

My PC is pretty relevant to me as a gaming machine because there are lots of genres I enjoy that I can't play on my PS3 because they are pretty non-existent any more on consoles. RTS games, Space Sims and horror games mainly. It's a shame because during the PS1 era there was a fair few 3d space shooter games I enjoyed like Colony Wars. Best horror games I ever played were on the PS1 now that I think about it too.
Likewise there are genres that are only on consoles that I love that hardly ever appear on PCs such as 3D platformers and JRPGs.

Ok alot of people have asked me before whether or not PC Gaming is the right choice for them. I simply reply and say it's all preference, but I wan't to know from other what they think would get them to switch to PC gaming.

First Question: What are the most relevant PC Exclusives? Not on consoles so No you can't say Half-Life just because the PC version has better visuals and support.

Second Question: How is Steam able to price their games at a lower price then retailers themselves?

Third Question: Which one is more bang for your buck will you get everything you wan't out of PC gaming or no?

Just answer these Questions. Oh and don't forget to say which is more Relevant in this day and Age PC Gaming or Console Gaming?

 VS

1)Planetside 2, most MMO's.

2) Less overheads. Obvious.

3) Prior to next-gen consoles have most bang for buck. On release, consoles tend to have more bang for buck for the first 18 months.

Console gaming is becoming too similar to define between the major players. Also: http://www.oculusvr.com/
That guarentees PC gaming will dominate the consoles if they can't support it.
