I never even got ascension and I loved the old GOW, I just feel the series needs some changes, it is time to add some new elements, the series has gotten stale IMO. It's bound to happen after 6 or so games.

actually now that i think on it after i got the cestus in 3 as far as i remember i stopped using the other weapons almost completely, however, in ascension at times i almost felt overwhelmed with the options i had in combat
I thought it was amazing, don't see what all the complaints are about i'm amazed they do so well with a prequel which for me made the single player a 9.5 out of 10 and the multiplayer is an added bonus. They added a lot of variety in combat with the different elem weps and artifacts, had an amazing ending and had better combat with the best graphics seen in any god of war game yet. If you were disappointed you probably aren't that big of a fan of other god of war games or you really don't like prequels.

he was thinking GoWA would be as solid and awesome as the rest. and it is on par with them.

once you gain enough meter your attacks get more powerful and additional attacks open to you like shooting lightning in a wide arc from your blades |
The Zeus attack power is the most powerful. It saved my ass during the trials of archemides. More hits for the duration of the attack.

For you maybe, but for me it's one of my favorite game series just behind Uncharted.
@OP Yeah, I really don't know what you even expected in the game. You sound like a lot of the other reviewers who said it wasn't as epic as GoW3 because you aren't killing gods or titans. It's like you really thought a prequel would be able to top GoW3. As for the weapons, how about you read what the game tells you unlocks when you upgrade them. Graphics are the best on ps3.
Here's my ratings:
GoW: 8.5/10
GoW2: 9/10
GoW3: 9.5/10
GoW:A 9/10
for the people talking game length:
that's not the point of what i'm saying. the point is that the game does so little in the 8 hours it has. you spend so much time doing random battles with insignificant foes and so little time fighting really epic opponents and having more significant story plots. there were essentially just 3 bosses, and you fight them over and over again in different forms. you tell me how many boss battles and how varied were they in the previous god of war games. those games packed a lot of entertainment in 8 hours, far more than ascension.
it's not about game length. it's about the amount of stuff they cram into the thing.
I agree the story is poor, the games also have numerous technical issues (none game-breaking, and they aren't frequent, but it's annoying when some glitch happens and it certainly tells about a lack of polish). I also agree the world weapons at very little to the game but they're probably there so you get used to them before you jump into the MP, if anything you can pull off some nice-looking combos with them. The powers are great, you just need to unlock their different abilities and a minimum of testing should make clear what they're about and they're very useful on different situations, you just need to see what works best and be open to experimentation. There are some low-res textures here and there, the ocean looks like crap, but it's a PS3 game pushing its limits and this GOW game has a large variety of environments and lighting and many times it looks better than part 3, especially towards the end. Very high production values on the visuals, not sure I would make a couple of textures in the background a number 4 in a complaints list. I tried the MP a bit, it kinda works, but I think it would get old fast, for me, I'm not very interested in that anyway, so I'm not the best judge for that.
To the guy who says GOW has never been fantastic....um no. GAmes of that scale were unheard of during the ps2 era, it also had some of the most impressive level design where an entire large area was one big puzzle. Not to mention the music in the game was some of the best. It IS a fantastic series, just saturation is kicking in IMO. Needs some new bllod.

unlocked everything. the point is all 4 elements add up to the same weapon that has the same timing and the same effects. sure you get a little difference in combos, but it's entirely unnecessary to switch at any point in the game. you can use fire forever and not come to any trouble. i know i did. i never bothered switching and i didn't have any difficulty, and yes, even archimedes trials weren't all that tough. at least in previous games, there was actually some difference in the weapons.
if you think the graphics are so good i have no idea where you're looking. i can see so many jaggies and low res textures i couldn't believe it was on ps3.
it's not about killing gods or titans again. at least they should've added some other things to kill rather than the same 3 women over and over again.
