I believe this is the first time ever for the PS3 to be in the #1 spot (maybe when it launched in Europe way back in '07).

That's quite a statement for PS3 considering how long it's been on the market!

It's also quite a sorry statement for the three next-gen systems (3DS/Vita/WiiU) which are all underperforming (except for handhelds in Japan).

I remember seeing the PS3 above the 3DS sometime late last year. At least the NA 3DS sales went up. 3DS should be back on top once Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon comes out.

So happy, lol. I can understand if Vita/Wii U was #1 but ps3? its been 2nd to 3ds this whole year, and as pezus mention ps3 dominated 2011.

When the eventual adjustments come in, we should see PS3 on top almost every week so far in 2013 too. The difference between 3DS and PS3 each week is so small that even adjustments of a few hundred k would put PS3 on top.

Why? They are certainly the best picture of global sales possible even if they are slightly off

Slightly is an understatement. Probably around 200k off for the Wii U (over tracked) in NA alone and Ps3 and 360 are off by at least 1 million each (more for ps3 than 360)
