Forums - Nintendo - Does the Wii U playing Watch Dogs say anything about how it would compete against other next gen consoles?

Doesn't prove much, but I still think the game on Wii U will look somewhere in between PS360 and next gen. Probably closer to the former, but still should be a graphical improvement, unless Ubi decides to be completely lazy about it and make the Wii U version a direct copy of the PS360 version.

Regardless, still an improvement from Wii where most devs whined about not being able to port their games on it at all because of the vast gap in power.

I am curious, on what way can Watch_Dogs be used as evidence that the Wii U has sufficient power next to the PS4 and Microsoft's offerings for next gen content.  Can someone explain?

It's not evidence at all, the person who posted that is merely a blind fanboy or he isn't aware it was also coming to current-gen.

Ubisoft said that the development for the PS360 version has not begun yet, so the Wii U version obviously must be based on the PC version, like the PS4 version.

Just Dance did best on Wii.

2 - do they use the GamePad in an interesting way that adds depth to the experience. This should be the focus point on Wii U. I think that Nintendo should even go as far as paying 3rd parties for doing something more than just putting the minimap and hud on the GamePad. They invested so much money into this controller, they can't allow it go underutilised. They should cover the cost of a small team working just on using the GamePad, as that could be something that would convince people to pick up the Wii U version over PS360 or even next gen consoles if it's really awesome.

I agree. More important than visuals IMHO.

Though obviously I expect all Wii U GamePad features to be transferred to PS4+PSV combo ;) But considering Vita sales, Nintendo shouldn't worry about that being competition.

I'm not sure if Ubisoft will bother to port it to Vita/PS4 too, but I agree, if they do it will not matter much.

Well so far we haven't seen anything of PS3/360/WiiU Watchdogs (and we probably won't until the review of those versions) so it's hard to tell. It could be a gimped Watchdogs with far less details, blurry textures, clipping which would make it awful compared to the PS4/X720/PC one.

Wii U is not underpowered for a seven-year-old console, but it probably is for a five-month-old one.

You think so Tim the Toolman Taylor? More power! arg ahhhhohh haha hmmmm (followed with more cave man noises)

Lol, that takes me back. Ah the days of Home Improvement. I remember the first time I say Tim Allen's Men Are Pigs stand up special. I wonder if it's as hilarious now as I thought it was when I was probably too young to get all the jokes.

It was exclusive until JD3. But Twilight_Link's diagnostic is still wrong : Nintendo fans welcome multiplat games when they can have it, Nintendo owners at large have little interest outside Nintendo games. That's why Watchdogs WiiU could be a flop, not to mention that there will far superior versions of Watchdogs to buy. Ubi's strategy on WiiU is really clumsy : they ruin the best-fitted title (Rayman Legends) and they work hard to make ACIV, Splinter Cell and Watchdogs which are at risk to sell abysmally on that platform.

Hmm, you're right, but most multiplats started somewhere as an exclusive. I tend only partly to agree with the point, that Nintendo-owners have little interest outside Nintendo-games. The extended audience of the Wii had also no interest in Zelda or Fire Emblem, although they had an interest in Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart. Nintendo was mostly able to produce games, that interested that expanded audience. Most 3rd-parties failed at that. That doesn't mean these people shun 3rd-parties at all.

And I fully agree, that Rayman Legends probably was most fitting to the current WiiU-audience and the other titles are to a much lesser degree.

You're assuming the Wii U version has begun development.  We have no way of knowing if that's the case... could very well be that the Wii U version won't begin being made until the 360/PS3 versions begin.

Sonic games tend to do very well on Nintendo platforms too, as opposed to Sony and Microsoft systems.
