we're on a video games sales site. Are we not supposed to talk about hardware and software sales for games or make predictions?

PS3 110-115 million coming at the end to be the best selling console this generation. My prediction: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=150842 |
You might think so but I will look at software sales and will remeber how well Minecraft and other online titles sold on the 360 and the shear number of other online contend the 360 offered that was substantialy more then the PS3 and Wii combined and the clear winner in my book is and always will be the 360. Software sales trump hardware sales because that's where the money is made. Selling more hardware at a loss does not make you a winner.

360 software sales is inaccurate and unconfirmed... the PS3 and Wii not.
In any case PS3 will top the 360 sofware sales in one or two years.
consider the historical implications if this were to happen
It would be the first ever triple crown in gaming. Atari only had one gen. Nintendo had 2 in a row. Sony has 2 in row running. If they could do the 3 peat it would be monumental. I can imagine that as a giant bomb at E3 2017 or whatever year it will be. I think they'll gloat a little about passing 360 globally at this E3 if it's happened by the time June rolls around (software spikes could make it so).

Because it's about profits. The companies involved are the very same companies and so regardless of how well one thing does over another the money goes to the same people. People say that Sony should pull the PSP because it hurts PSVita sales for the very same silly logic. Sony want to make money regardless of where it comes from. Companies that sell Blu-ray discs wanted to make money too, so they continued selling DVDs. It's about transitioning not up front profits from only ONE source.
The PS5 Exists.

Nah I think 90mil max still. Ahead of the 360 but not the Wii.

oh ok so we are on the same boat here...
i dont think sony could care less being "number 1" in this generation... yep it is all about the $$$

Highly doubt that since the 360 is still outselling the PS3 in software also the PS3 will never come close to selling as much online content as the 360 because as I said before the 360 has more online content then the PS3 and Wii combined and the 360 is strongest in NA where people buy the most online content. The clear software winner (online and physical) will always be the 360. One think I agree with you is that the 360 software sales numbers are inaccurate since they are untertracked by at least 10 million units but probably more.
| pezus said: To be honest, yes. More like: FY2012: 77m |
About to win? No, not really, they're about 26 million units away from the leader (which is still a moving target, allbeit a slow moving one) and still haven't taken second place in the race. Will they eventually reach the highest lifetime sales? Maybe, its hard to tell, but they're not about to win the way I see it.
Besides, its long past the time where it matters.
