Forums - Nintendo - I had a nightmare last night: Nintendo announced Mario Sunshine 2 as Wii U's 3D Mario

I thought Sunshine was a great game.

Well, I think that if they make a new sunshine, it will be on handhelds.

Sunshine 2 on 3DS would actually be awesome. An interesting follow-up to 3D Land.

Sunshine = Hardest 3D mario game

Well, at least most of you guys will be happy if it happens. It will be really creepy if it does now that I've dreamt it.

It may not seem likely, but up until it was announced, I didn't think Luigi's Mansion 2 was very likely either. I don't think it would be a wise move though, Sunshine was the least beloved of the 3D console Mario games, and Nintendo should be aware of this, plus the Gamepad doesn't seem to lend itself to FLUDD. (Though ironically the Wiimote does, much more than even the Gamecube controller)

For me, Sunshine's lack of variety was too bitter a pill to swallow. Mario 64 conditioned me to expect a 3D Mario game to offer a broad range of challenges across diverse environments, and FLUDD and the tropical setting just didn't cut it. Plus I found the level design pretty dull.

Furthermore, I want Wii U's 3D Mario to be as fresh and mind-blowing as Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy were, not a sequel to something we've already seen.

Sunshine wasn't bad by any means but I don't want a sequel. There are so many directions they could take with the next 3D Mario (Super Mario in Time, Super Mario Minish Cap, Super Mario Who-gives-a-damn-just-give-us-awsome-levels) so Sunshine 2 would be an enormous disappointment, almost as bad as next Metroid being Metroid: Another M...

Mario Sunshine gets a bad wrap but I actually appreciated the change of scenery and mechanics.

Super Mario Universe does seem much more likely, but as much as a loved Galaxy 1+2, I still hope we see some significant changes/additions to the formula.

For some reason this damn computer won't let me quote or edit posts. My last post was meant to quote the part about "Another M" and say in response: "Heads would freaking roll if they made Another M, I hated Other M so damn much..."

If they were actually targeting the GCN fanbase, the Wii U would be at least as powerful if not more so than Ps4/720, we'd have some actual "core" games and games showing off cutting edge graphics like Rogue Squadron 4, and 3rd parties wouldn't be running for the hills from it so soon.

Factor 5 is dead, and I don't know if Disney would allow that game to exist. Retro Studios would be a good contender for showing off the Wii U graphical capabilities, unless they are working on something like Donkey Kong.
