So, on top of that $498 that Andrespetmonkey, we have to add:

- $24.65 (cheapest mouse + keyboard from Amazon).
- $91.17 for Windows 7

Note that we're assuming that we'll be using a TV here and we'll not include time and labour as part of the price. So, that's $613.82 for parts for a PC that will last a couple of years.

It willl last just as long as the PS4 if not longer.

-This does everything the PS4 does and more.

-It is out NOW, and will cost about $450 when the PS4 launches.

-It is most likely slightly stronger than the PS4.

Still you cannot even fathom that being worth the price?

- No, it won't last as long as the PS4 just like a mid-range PC from 2006 has been able to last as long the PS3. In other words, will that configuration allow me to play games well for the next 7-8 years? I doubt it.

- It can do more but this pc's purpose is for gaming.

- $450 - does that include the mouse + kb + OS?

- I'll believe Digital Foundry when they say "Put into perspective, this level of throughput exceeds that of even capable £120+ PC graphics cards, including current mid-range favourite the Radeon HD 7850."

-A midrange PC from 2006 does last as long as the PS3.  I know because I own one.  You do not, so I understand why you are skeptical.
-Look if all you are going to do is cover your ears and pretend its other uses don't exist, then yeah I guess I can't argue with a child.

-Yes that does include all that stuff.

-The fact is PS4's graphics card will be downclocked to save on yields and heat, while the PC's 7850 can always overclock an extra 20% to compete with high end cards.   If anything it will not be weaker.

-Also a 7850 comes with Bioshock: Infinite and Tomb Raider.   So now you can deduct $110.  Hmm that makes it $500 for a PS4 now + being able to do everything you already need a PC for.

To everyone else:  Seriously people you need to calm down.  Why do PC's have to be bad price/performance wise?  It's like some of you can't accept that they are affordable now, and frankly idk why.  PC's were complete rip-offs in 2005 when SONY and MS were killing themselves to sell their consoles at massive losses, but that just isn't true anymore.  I will be getting a PS4 day 1 for its games, portability, and the fact that it can be used with my Vita.  However PC's really are worth looking into people.

Also I want to appologize to the people I bashed.  While some of your (Possibly incredibly ignorant) comments made me angry, I am not here to prove my superiority.  I am here because I am tired of all of the uneducated and misinformed rubish I am hearring thrown around when people talk about console specs.

Maybe I was naive to think anyone would want to better themselves and possibly **GASP** change how they see the world for the better.  Either way please someone ask me questions that this thread was supposed to be about.

Example: make something as stonge as a Vita.

- I'll still believe digital foundry over you when they say that PS4's GPU is more powerful. Funny how you ignore that.

- Even funnier when you're trying to pass the PS4 as a $500 machine.

-I didn't ignore DF, I am simply saying overclocking will trounce the benifits.  The 7000 series are legendary overclockers.

-What's funny?  I am saying it is $500 now!

-It is abundently obvious you are running out of things to say back to me.

Specs:

X1900 GT -> was $200 and is decently stronger than the one in the PS3.

Core 2 Duo E6300 Overclocked to 3GHz-> was $230 at the time and didn't hold any games back until recently.

I can easily play BF3 on Low-Medium in full 720p.  Looks better than BF3 on my PS3.

Question: Why would a PC not last as long?  You can adjust graphics settings so in 5 years "Low" will look like what "High" or "Ultra" does now (Excluding the original Crysis as always).  For instance I can run Fallout 3 on my $380 7970 AND my $35 6450.  One just looks vastly superior and can run graphics mods.  Also FO3 looks better on the 6450 than it does on consoles lol.

Your 6450 won't run Crysis 3 or BF3 though so no clearly that didn't last a gen. I doubt your x1900 from 2006 can either.

Yes it does run it:

BF3:

Crysis 3:

Can your PC run Google?  If so you could have found this as easily as me.

Have I finnaly proved my point?

Crysis 3 - average of $25 at 1024x768. Yeah....

What about your 2006 year old card? You said that a card can last 7 to 8 years, right?

Post a silent 20 CFM high pressure Intel/Nvidia based PC that can run Metro 2033 maxed with full data redundancy.

Jokin'

I agree with you here. Also don't forget that with Micro ATX boards having powerful PC's literally half the size of conventional ones is very possible. However I must admit that if the PS4 can perform to the same level or greater than a GTX680 based PC and is sold for ~£350, that's a hell of a bargain.
Also as an added note don't forget to mention things like Motion Joy - I've been using my PS3 pad wirelessly on my PC for months now and have never had a fault with it.

Bro chill out. A gaming PC from 06 will be able to out perform the 360 and PS3 if you consider neither one of those really plays games like CoD at 720p. When you actually make a gaming PC output the same visuals as a console, your framerates rocket. The fact is nowadays the average GPU is miles ahead of anything in the consoles, same with the CPU's. Due to temperature constraints, you aren't going to get the same raw horse power in a console as you can on a card. For example, the GTX Titan is over x2 the power of the PS4 on one freakin' chip.

Don't get me wrong, the PS4 looks to be a truly amazing console and by the far the technically most forward thinking one to date, but spend a lil more cash and you will get a power house of a PC. Whether it's "better" or not is debatable. Personally the no-boot-up on the PS4 is a massive plus to me, yet Planetside 2 is such a beast of a game I'd hate to leave it behind.

I think that on release the PS4 will be the best value gaming machine out there, but lets not forget a PC does pretty much everything - it's not limited to films and games. But after say 2 years, a PC will once again be more powerful. What people should be praising though is that hopefully we'll see a massive leap in graphics and gameplay as processing power on the PS4 is so high it should translate to the top-range PC hardware really well.

Nopes but Killzone 2/3 or Halo are played at 720p. An average card from 2006 can't play the demanding games that came out this year or the last. The other guy's X1900, for example. No way it can run BF3 or Crysis 3. So, a card doesn't last you a gen.

PC has pretty much everything except when it comes to the exclusives that Sony releases and that's its major drawback.
