Forums - Gaming - It's time to prove gaming PC's are affordable...

A "Diablotek 450W" psu, in other words a low wattage no name psu is not a good idea for a 7850, you should go with something decent like CORSAIR CX430

and for a half decent gaming mouse and keyboard you must give at least 50 bucks

The 7850 uses 105w and the i3 uses 65w.  With everything else it would come to 200w-250w.  Does that really worry you?  If anything the PSU is just as high quality as the ones in consoles.

Not all graphics cards use a lot of power.  Through undervolting I am able to run my 7970 at stock speed with only 120w.

PSU/motherboard/HDD/dvd etc. should add to another $200

So around $800 in total. Will max out FC3 at 1080p/30

Total: $498

This would max it out at 30 FPS in 1080p with x2 MSAA.

Where's the mouse and keyboard? And do all those come with cables and powercords?

Honestly a mouse and keyboard are $10 new.  If you don't have one, idk what to tell you besides sorry and buy it.  Don't mention monitors because a console does not come with one either.   Also yes of coarse it comes with cables and power cords lol.

It's ok though.  That's the point of this thread, to educate people.

I doubt you'll get a mouse and keyboard for $10 each. And we're assuming that this will be played on a TV, correct?

If you doubt it, check newegg, amazon, and ebay.   Also you can play it on anything you want, plus a 360 or PS3 controller will work too.

Ok I just want to clear a few things up for people who didn't get the memo that PC's are now dirt cheap.  I am NOT here to make fun of people.  This is for people who truly don't know anything about PC specs.

So I challenge all who read this to post what they want me to build, and I will show them how cheap it is.

Example Questions:

Forum User 1:  "Build a PC that can run Far Cry 3 maxed out in 1080p."

OP:  Posts short parts list and total price that maxes out Far Cry 3 at 30 FPS at listed specs.

Forum User 2:  "Build a PC that beats the Wii U"

OP:  Posts short parts list and total price that beats the Wii U soundly for as cheap as possible.

NOTE:

1)I am not going to include OS in price since windows rarely needs to be bought, and Linux is free.  However add $75 to the price if you want to know what it would cost with Windows 7.

2)Mouse, Monitor, keyboard and other stuff EVERYONE has are also not included.

3)At times I may not max out a game using rediculous settings. I.E.  Anything above x2 MSAA in BF3 is not at all noticable in 1080p.

1. If you're building a custom PC, you need to include Windows price.

2. Why not? Mouse, Monitor and Keyboard are all necessary to use the computer. Monitor shouldn't be included in price though since we don't include TVs when comparing consoles. But keyboard and mouse are essential. Would you be able to use a console without a controller?

PS3 controllers won't work unless you install some weird 3rd party application which doesn't work half the time. 360 controller will work fine, but you would still need a mouse and keyboard to use the computer lmfao.

So, on top of that $498 that Andrespetmonkey, we have to add:

- $24.65 (cheapest mouse + keyboard from Amazon).
- $91.17 for Windows 7

Note that we're assuming that we'll be using a TV here and we'll not include time and labour as part of the price. So, that's $613.82 for parts for a PC that will last a couple of years.

It willl last just as long as the PS4 if not longer.

-This does everything the PS4 does and more.

-It is out NOW, and will cost about $450 when the PS4 launches.

-It is most likely slightly stronger than the PS4.

Still you cannot even fathom that being worth the price?

- No, it won't last as long as the PS4 just like a mid-range PC from 2006 has been able to last as long the PS3. In other words, will that configuration allow me to play games well for the next 7-8 years? I doubt it.

- It can do more but this pc's purpose is for gaming.

- $450 - does that include the mouse + kb + OS?

- I'll believe Digital Foundry when they say "Put into perspective, this level of throughput exceeds that of even capable £120+ PC graphics cards, including current mid-range favourite the Radeon HD 7850."
