Yeh, pirating makes PC gaming very VERY affordable. Not to mention all of the free-to-play MMOs.

Holy crap, man. I assumed, apparently incorrectly, that you created this topic to be informative and helpful. Instead, it seems your goal is to prove your superiority and chastise anyone who dares disagree with you or say something that may be incorrect. Rather than simply tell somebody why they are wrong and engage in civil discussion, you insult them.
It doesn't matter if it bothers you. The fact is, it shouldn't. I am likely far more knowledgeable about some subjects than you, however I would never insult you for your lack of knowledge. I would never call you an idiot for being wrong. It's very easy to be wrong, we all are at some point or another.
Rather than take the opportunity to help people, educate them, point them in the right direction, you call them ignorant and tell them they shouldn't be. That they should know everything you know. Nobody will ever listen to you or heed your advice if you give that advice in a harsh, condescending manner. You'll be ignored, as you should be.
My previous advice stands: Grow up.

Not that expensive. I have an i7 2600k, 8gb RAM and a GTX 550 ti. I can play every game out there on at least medium, most games high, older ones maxed out, and will be able to for some time. This cost me just below £500 (including all the other parts). If I upgrade the GPU, PSU and maybe RAM it'll last probably another 5 years... and that would cost me maybe £300 for high-end components. Which would mean I spent a total of £800 on the PC's internals over 7 years, which I don't think is expensive at all. If you wanted to max out every game at 1080p and 60fps then I'd probably have to double the figures, but not everyone needs to do that, games look fantastic on my PC already.

So I challenge all who read this to post what they want me to build, and I will show them how cheap it is. Example Questions: Forum User 1: "Build a PC that can run Far Cry 3 maxed out in 1080p." OP: Posts short parts list and total price that maxes out Far Cry 3 at 30 FPS at listed specs.
Forum User 2: "Build a PC that beats the Wii U" OP: Posts short parts list and total price that beats the Wii U soundly for as cheap as possible.
NOTE: 1)I am not going to include OS in price since windows rarely needs to be bought, and Linux is free. However add $75 to the price if you want to know what it would cost with Windows 7. 2)Mouse, Monitor, keyboard and other stuff EVERYONE has are also not included. 3)At times I may not max out a game using rediculous settings. I.E. Anything above x2 MSAA in BF3 is not at all noticable in 1080p. |
So my PC runs FC3 on max at 30FPS, it cost just under £1,000 without the other stuff, though I did have to buy all of that stuff that "everyone" has. Also, you can't play games without Windows.
However, I reckon that you could get 30FPS with 1 graphics card down, a 660. So you are still looking at ~£800 I reckon

1) If you build the PC yourself you want to buy Windows. So the $75 must be added
2) I use only laptops and consoles for gaming. I don't have any m&k, thank you. the Mac trackpad does a terrific job. Regarding the monitor you can skip it only because one could use the television, since as a laptop user for sure I don't have any monitor either.
4) add the cost of a Xbox controller. There is no way that I would play games with m&k.
Total cost for the extra? At least $150-$200 more for anything decent quality (not even the best).

Well nobody is actually doing what this thread is meant to do. Also it is true that he has no idea what he is talking about, and apparently his friend doesn;t either lol. It is a fact that modern games are not even using anywhere near even 75% of the power of the i5-2500k and i5-3570k. The other guy doesn't seem to understand that an i7 is EXACTLY THE SAME as an i7 except without hyperthreading, and that the i7's hyperthreading isn't even being used yet.

So you have no TV? Ok...

The current gen of AMD video cards are so strong that they aren't going to relase new ones until late 2013 or early 2014. Also if you get a 7870 or up, you are fine fo 5 years don't worry lol. As for how much power it takes to compete with optimized consoles; consoles really don't get much of a boost. Really they just run them at lower than par resolutions (BF3 is 704p), and get an extra 10% boost in performance. For instance a 6450 ($30 card) is rated as about the same strength as the card the PS3 was derived from, and still performs just as well in modern games as the PS3. The real reason Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 looked awesome is because ND and GG are amazing at what they do! |
I've been looking at parts and and am thinking about going with 7950 and overclocking it. I'd like to get the most for my money and have a pc with good longevity. However, I doubt I'll have money for a gaming pc for at least a few months :(. I hope there are a lot of good sales this summer.
I don't even know what the OP means by affordable. My affordable is like thousands of dollars at a good value if need be. Affordable as in for people on welfare or something? Then they shouldn't be buying gaming machines to start with and should go find fucking jobs!

Or maybe people have other things they spend their money on, and can't afford to spend it all on gaming, because they have responsibilities.
I am in the "get a job" boat right now (but not the welfare boat) but when I do have money, I'm not spending thousands on gaming. There are better places for money to go....other things I want to do, need to do. I have priorities and gaming isn't at the top of the list.
