Forums - Gaming - Is Microsoft in panic mode after Sony's PS4 reveal?

Hardly; There aren't that many companies that can match them financially. Sony surely isn't one of them.

No, it's not that simple Microsoft have to please their shareholders it's not all about what a company can afford, theyre a bigger company yes, so in that sense they would need a better profit ratio than Sony otherwise the billion spent on developing a console could be spent more efficient else where.

if it was all about money, microsoft would be dominating everything. consumers dont buy a product based on how much money the company has.

And yet MS has the money because they are doing something right.. And they arent throwing the money away on risk as Sony did with the PS3... Sony pretty much sqaundered Billions of dollars in the bank .. Money put in the bank because of the PS2.. They got cocky and thought everyone in the world would surely buy a PS3.. Instead they lost marketshare, and exclusives

fucking hell, get with the times man. no one gives a shit what happened 10 years ago anymore and whats with all this talk of money money money? why do you care that microsoft make money? i dont get it!? how does it possibly benefit you in any way, shape or form? this question goes to everyone who boasts about microsofts finances.

My favourite console creator keeps existing.

Next question?

The 360 was able to go toe-to-toe with the nearly double the price PS3 when it launched, and all hype about the PS3's amazing CELL processor and Blu-Ray drive proved totally overblown and proved futile after the complexity of the PS3 cost them many of their previously exclusive franchises.

Now the new talking point for Sony fans is how much RAM the PS4 has. Gimme a break. The graphical differences between 99% of PS4 and NextBox games will be completely negligible, if that.

And stop with the "Sony is all about the games, unlike Microsoft" crap... remind me which company first introduced MOVIE playback as a major selling point of their gaming console?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I guess you dont get.. The whole point this could be Sony's last stand never occured to you?  You said this happened 10 yrs ago?  You need to do some reading!

From 2012..

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/05/10/business/japan-sony-record-loss/index.html

"(CNN) -- Sony Corp. lost a record $5.7 billion in the fiscal year ending in March, the company announced today -- lower than beleaguered electronics giant's previous estimates of finishing the year $6.4 billion in the red....Still, it was the FOURTH straight year the company finished the year with a loss. Sony is not the only Japanese electronics giant struggling: On Friday, Panasonic Corp. is expected to announce nearly $10 billion in annual losses, according to estimates released by the company earlier this year."

Alot of these guys dont know squat anyways.. Memory speed means nothing without a system bus fast enough to fully utilize it.. Faster memory on a high end pc may not even be fully appreciated.. Faster memory on the PS4 could be a smart marketing strategy..

Another point of concern for MS at this point would be that the PS4 boasts 18 GCN cores compared to the XBox 720′s 12. That’s a 50 percent advantage to the Sony camp, but as usual things AREN'T quite that simple. It seems that 4 of the GCN cores from the Playstation 4 Orbis have been locked out and used exclusively for Compute Units, which would bring the number ‘available’ for graphics down to 14, or just over a 16 percent advantage to the Sony camp..

In the end we dont know anything hard on the next xbox.. They could just as well announce they are using different specs then what is being assumed here.  Assumptions were made on the PS4 that werent true..

History repeating. XBox 360 has lower specs than the PS3. Multi-platform developers favoured development on the XBox 360. It is much easier to port a lower grade port to a higher end system than it is to downgrade.

But this time PS4 is easier for developers to work with.

@bold
Makes sense. So in theory, Ps4 games would have the advantage, right?

sony have been losing money for years. i never cared. playstation is still here and aint going anywhere. boasting about finances seems to be exclusive to microsoft fans. i hardly see nintendo or sony fans ever discussing them.

lol at all the people acting like Microsoft has a lot of money because of gaming. No. It's all enterprise software. They have $6 billion in cash on hand. That's really not a boat load. Sony has $8 billion.
