Forums - Sony - Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

Nintendo's Wii U reveal only had two tech demos and it wasn't lambasted this badly. This is getting a little silly now. If Valve suddenly announced you can play your games while they're downloading on steam, the internet would go into meltdown.

What I find amusing between this and nintendo's is the different reaction to PS3/360 ports.

PS4 reaction "oh man I can't wait to play ____ on my PS4, i am totally getting the system for that superior version, ect"

When 3rd party porst were announced for the Wii U, everyone was just like "whatever I don't need to get a wii u, i'll be able to play that on my ps3"

And let's remind everyone that the Wii U was announced way back at E3 2011, and we didn't get a solid release date OR price point for 15 months after that!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Wow this is bad. I feel like I was reading into the mind of a 14 year old who just got into gaming.

Come on that is just biased. I get that some didn't like it, but it was by no means disastrous.

Edit: just had another read and this is ridiculous.

The word 'disastrous' itself in the thread's title doesn't make it feel right. And what follows is a FAIL article.

The author sounds like an XBOX fan yet he blasts Sony for having third party games lol that is every Microsoft conference ever.

Problem 5 if I a can play a game when I want to I do not really care if it is streamed or downloaded if it works with no issues I do not care.

Problem 6 is not an issue at all there is still Pax, E3 and TGS for that plus why allow Nextbox to undermine them let them set a date and a price and you come out sooner and cheaper

His problem 1 and 2 are kinda right but I don't think it was disastrous at all.
Also, what does Holiday 2013 mean? I'm assuming it means November 2013, but then why announce it nearly 1 full year early???

E3 2013.

PROBLEM 1

Not a problem at all really. All consoles are a hunk of plastic and metal that are not meant to look good, but are meant to play good games. We got all the details we really needed.

This is one of those things where there is NO way they could show us the hardware that is most likely still being tested and molded. It would be like showing us some swanky car 6+ months before release and then 6 months later saying, "Hey guys, you know that kick as thing we showed you 6 months ago? Well now it looks like this, sorry."

PROBLEM 2

Couple problems with this assessment here, but ill start with what I agree with. Being able to play used games, at least for this gen is going to be important enough that without it, it will hurt sales. Into the future, less so. When the breakpoint happens and we go full digital, no one will know.

First problem with this problem is suggesting that PC gaming is dead. But there is a very huge thing this overlooks, one that actually flies in the face of this whole section. Steam. It essentially saved the PC industry such that PC gaming is currently thriving just fine thank you and it does all this without used games.

PSP Go's main problem was it was ahead of its time. Most of the time it should be consumer habits that should dictate where the market goes. Unlike the PC/Internet world where it was a no brainer for PC games to go full digital, that simply was not the case for dedicated mobile gaming when the PSP Go was released. Even now perhaps a majority of mobile gaming taking place on mobile Phones, it is still not yet time for dedicated handhelds to go digital only. At this point I would say that there is a 70/30 split right now between physical gaming and pure digital gaming right now. Until that reverses. Consumers want their physical discs/carts.

PROBLEM 3

Just. No. There is no need for them to say, yeah we suck, piss in our face, we are going to try really really hard to do better.

Instead they shoulda done exactly what they did. Come right out of the gate with something that will trump what currently exists on XBOX Live and they have.

Integrated sharing, video recording, remote play, spectator gaming, Gaikai, play while downloading, demos are actually full games instead of separate software that requires redownloading the game if you want to buy, etc, etc.

The Call of Duty lag is all at the feet of Activision.

PROBLEM 4

This is your problem not theirs. Talking about 3rd party multi-platform games is important to gamers too. Yes, exclusives matter, but not at the exclusion of multi-platform games.

By the way, E3 matters way way more than some 1-2 hour press conference. All these nintendo/sony/microsoft directs are mere sideshows compared to mutli day shows like E3.

PROBLEM 5

First, I can pretty much guarantee that PS1 games bought on PSN will work on the PS4. PS2 will be the same way, though we have not had much in the way of PS2 content on PSN anyway so that is not even a big deal yet.

I used to be like this about PS3 games, but I've come to grips with needing to keep the most recent previous gen console around to continue playing those games. It sucks, but the alternative is a more expensive console. Look how expensive the WiiU is and it does not even have very good specs.

SONY's strategy is to completely change how we deal with legacy games. We buy one time, digitally, and we can play on any device that has the required software and internet connection. They are completely focused on that, which is as it should be. I would much rather that then have them make an even more expensive console and no way to do some of the stuff they want to do like PS1/2/3 games all playable on the PSV.

PROBLEM 6

Holiday 2013 means Nov/Dec. It's 6+ bloody months away. It would be utter stupidity to give us a date now that would be almost guaranteed to change. It doesn't matter, yet, what the exact date is.

Again, it is too soon for that kind of detail.

Hilarious how this negative article about the event is posted by an Xbox fan. I don't know if you know this Nsanity, but this article makes the author look really stupid. Don't know what that says for you, the person who decided it was worthwhile to post it on VGC.
