That is really funny!
When I get a game that uses the Sixaxis feature in some way, the first thing I do is turn it off. The worst one is the first Ratchet & Clank, the laser aim and hangglider sections were a nightmare with "motion controls".

The Nintendo DS was not a blunder. Wii U's gamepad isn't the freshest idea, but at least putting a gaming touchscreen in a more balanced form factor (longtime peeve of the DS which is even more apparent when motion controls were added to 3DS) that can move independently of the top screen opens up a few new possibilities. I seriously have no idea what you're supposed to do with the DS4 touchpad. Touchpads are kludges fitted into laptops because mice are even more awkward in laptop use cases. Mount them in a device meant to be gripped with two hands rather than laid on a level surface and it gets even worse. They might as well have added an extra thumb stick. If you have gameplay ideas, I'd love to hear them. |
The second screen on the DS is what sucks not really the lame stylus touch screen. But I wasn't saying the DS is a blunder, I was saying the Wii U gamepad touchscreen is a blunder. To me I very much care less about 'fresh' ideas and 'innovative' new things than I do tried and true input controls with iterative changes.
The DS4 touchpad has quite a bit less to do with game control than it does with OS controls. Usings gesture to navigate the OS or the web browser is a major enhancement. The Witness game with its puzzles highlights some possible in game uses of the touchpad as well. Whereas I find having to look _away_ from the primary screen we should 100% always be looking at to be a signifigant drawback of the Wii U's gamepad.
The two real uses for the Wii U's gamepad are alright but hardly worth a dedicated expensive control that could have just been a simple addon and could have resulted, easily, in a $100+ less expensive or a more powerful console, both would have made the Wii U a much better system. The first viable use case, Asymetric gameplay, is an interesting concept with one main flaw, it assumes two people in the same room which to me is a large assumption. Most multi-player games these days are over the internet. It goes hand in hand with Nintendo's insistence of weak online gameplay. The other use case being taking the controller away from the TV room to play elsewhere is another interesting concept that unfortunately has a few problems because of the gamepads weaknesses itself. That being the battery life, weak screen, and the limited range through walls. I imagine the Vita will suffer the same wall range problem, though it will not really suffer the same other two weakensses.
The DS4 touchpad is a minor thing, meant to be used in a few use cases. Touchpads can actually replace the desktop mouse and I know a few people who have done just that. And you most certainly will not need to lay the DS4 down on a level surface to use the touchpad, get real. I dunno about you but I play one handed sometimes, because you definitely do not always have to two hand grip the controls in every situation. Using one hand to hold the control, while using the other hand to do a quick geasture or two on the touchpad is a simple thing. A third stick would not allow you to do a 2 finger crossswipe, or a couple quick thump downswips to quickly navigate massive amounts of screen text.
Note: only purpose of this event was to one-up microsoft and get people talking about the playstation in the run up to e3, don't you find it odd that they were EXTREMELY specific about both the ram amount, and type, in light of recent leaks stating it would only have 4gb?, right now Microsoft are probably extremely concerned.
Very underwhelming reveal, but, its got the fanboys exited and thats all Sony needs.
The most interesting thing about it was Bungies reveal of PS4 exclusive content and Diablo III. it certainly explains a few things (why Diablo 3 took so long) and that MS have no longer any interest in hardcore gaming...

Fanboys would get excited even if the console was less powerful than the WiiU.
Also, why do you think MS has no more interest in hardcore gaming?
The system, its specs, features and games were all amazing imo.. the conference itself was not very exciting though and the crowd definitely showed that, normaly the crowd at E3 are much more energetic. Now that the showing is out of the way i think the anticipation for the PS4 will increase with every upcoming new information released.
Just the Xbox to look forward to now
If they deliver on the 8GB memory thing this will be one hell of a machine throughout it's life. I mean, think about what games are coming out on the PS3 and Xbox360 today running on what has been laughable hardware in PC terms since 4 years ago.
Now think about what all game developers will be able to do on the PS4 which is 10x as powerful in many aspects of it.
This thing will be able to support innovation for many years to come. Good times.

As usual, expectations were set so high that Sony couldn't possibly deliver on it. - KZ looked more of the same, Infamous no gameplay - Car game and didn't announce GT6. Total missed opportunity. - A lot of talk, buzz words, and promises with little concrete facts |
Where did you hear that bolded?
I'm sure anyone who was really hyped up for an announcement will eventually be brought down from their on delusions. I'm beginning to believe that many (if not most) gamers are a bunch of whining little kids who will never be pleased or satisfied. Hell I remember when I told myself I would never grow up and would always be a kid inside, but I'm pretty sure I have outgrown the selfish, self-centered, egotistical portion that went along with being an underdeveloped human being.
I'm not going to try to guess what Sony's intentions were, I'm just going to go along for the ride and judge with my purchasing power if or when I feel it is appropriate to do so. I have a lot of resentment towards Sony--do to my own reasons, but I've looked past it (this generation) because Sony provided a product that in the end satisfied enough of my personal tastes; hence, it warranted my purchase over its competitors. This does not mean that I will stick with them always; nor will I base my opinions right now. I will not judge any console worthy of my money until a year has gone by after its release so I have a better understanding on where the pros & faults lie.
Any criticism before one actually has the product in hand is just narrow minded views based on biases (of days past), personal taste, & speculation. I know we are all gathered here in this forum to discuss a many range of topics, but must many of you punish your child for ignorantly stating that he will mistreating a cow that you plan on buying in the future? It seems silly to me.
If you did not understand that last phrase, let me elaborate on the following anecdote:
A farmer is thinking of buying a cow, and he tells his son of his plans. His son--surprised & excited with the news--tells his father that he will diligently take care of it.by grooming it, feeding it, and walking it with a leash every day. The father is startled by the last comment & his face angers as he reaches for his hat and strikes the boy on the head hard enough to make him cry.
What's the moral of this story you might ask? I'll answer it in a form a question: Why do people get upset/work-up over things that have yet come to pass. (Specially when no one really knows what the future holds.)
