Forums - Sony - Was anybody else underwhelmed by the PS4 event?

I think it was a great setup for E3 to make it more exciting in years. First time ever M$ and Sony releasing head to head in the next gen. Now the gloves are off. Lets get ready to RUMBLE!

Gamers can only win from this, competition will bring out the best in these companies, so i am hoping.

Or they could price themselves right out of the market trying to compete with each other powerwise, and we could see a second gaming crash.

But lets hope this is not the case.

I was underwhelmed by Square Enix.

Sony set them self up perfectly for E3. More people are interested about how it looks etc. They have now until E3 to keep hyping people.

The conference were really good up until killzone. I can understand that people like it, but I'm not one of those. So after 3 centuries of (gorgeous) killzone, sony rick rolled me with that drive thing that I thought were a gt, and I went to bed. When I woke up I realized that I didn't miss anything significant.

I'm going to buy the thing eventually. But I'm still wondering about that price.

I feel a little dissapointed. Most of the things announced we already knew.

I was expecting to see the console itself and some release plans, like price, available bundles, new accessories etc. Actually, what we saw is that Sony will not try anything revolutionary or risky, instead it will keep the PS pattern fans like and love. The controller is ok, it´s the same DS we´ve been using for years and years with some ergonomic enhancements. The small touch-screen and motion sensors on it seems unecessary. The PS4 is a traditional PS with some more power and online functions.

The games line-up is quite promising. Specially Infamous, Killzone, Watch Dogs and Diablo. I dont know what to expect from the next Final Fantasy

Now, I really think that the lack or retrocompatibiliy can be a problem. It means we can´t use our PS3 discs on it and we will have to pay to play those games online using the cloud method...... that would requires a very high speed connection that most consumers don´t or can´t have.

It was boring.. and it's interesting to note that Watchdogs stole the show when it's not really Next Gen stuff. The graphics were fantastic though, but we've seen Sony announce games that don't get released for a while.

It's not entirely Sony's fault, I think they showed good games on their part, but the third parties were underwhelming as they have been with console launches of late.

Overall it was boring. We kept seeing graphics engines without actual games. Also no console unveiling, no price, imo disappointing overall.

True great setup for E3, but I think the show was dragged for the info revealed. Didn't need to be that long.

Not sure why the blu ray drive is also DVD compatible. DVD players are dirt cheap now and I'm befuddled at why they haven't got native PS3 backward compatibility.

Its annoying because the PS3 uses the same device, the blu ray drive, all they would need to do is put in an emulator to run the PS3 games. Not sure why DVD compatibility is still relevant, since Sony has Netfix and its own store for film and music entertainment.

I don't like how PS3 native BC was scrapped, but DVD BC was kept in despite having tonnes of alternatives for the new console.

I was surprised KZ4 gameplay looked so boring. Graphically it was impressive, even if the setting sucked, but gameplay wise there was absolutely nothing that set it apart from any run of the mill FPS we can play today. I hope they show something more at E3 because I bought a PS3 for KZ2 and a great KZ game would be a big deal to me. I was letdown by Infamous 2 after the incredible first game so I am hyped for the sequel. Hope we see some gameplay at E3.

The features of the PS4 sound great though. And Watch Dogs was easily the best thing about the whole show imho. So mark me down as "meh" on the games aside from Watch Dogs and stoked about the potential PS4 features. Of course, we'll have to wait and see with Sony and online features. They over promised galore with PS2 and PS3. This seems different though.

I cant stop laughing reading the various "underwhelmed" and "justifying" tones from neutral gamers and Sony gamers alike. As usual, expectations were set so high that Sony couldn't possibly deliver on it.

Personally:

- Lack of Kaz.....bad move Sony considering Kazification
- No console reveal at a console announcement......weird
- No last Guardian and Final Fantasy V13 (FF was very vague)
- Multiplat heavy gameplay

- KZ looked more of the same, Infamous no gameplay

- Car game and didn't announce GT6. Total missed opportunity.

- A lot of talk, buzz words, and promises with little concrete facts

Side Note - Women didnt take to kindly, think Sony is sexist with not a single Sony female exec (see twitter for female scorn)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I dont know. It was really boring. There was nothing we havent seen before. If I were a journalist invited to this event I would have been really angry.

No Kaz, no console, no detailed Specs apart from the 8GB GDDR5 thing (what about Discs? They didnt mention Discs, BD?...oh no maybe totally digital???) and just advertising words u can use on everything (simple, personal blabla)...wasted time for me.
