So they pretty much have no JP games. (No Capcom's game doesn't count it looks more western than Japanese)

My god SE trolled hard.

I've mentioned this in other threads, but the kind of Japanese companies that support Sony consoles just aren't going to be front and centre at a conference like this.  The Japanese big guns that support Sony were there - Capcom & Squeenix, although it's a shame Square were a complete bust.  Konami were missing, but they hardly ever have anything to show other than Metal Gear anyway.  Bamco don't really have a big property that would appeal to both east & west to show these days anymore; with Ridge Racer & Tekken both fading into irrelevance.

The other companies, which I'm sure are/will be developing for PS4, just aren't the type to show off tech demos and make people go "WHOA" at their titles.  Nippon Ichi; Nihon Falcom; Idea Factory; Compile Heart; Tecmo Koei etc. etc.  I'm sure they'll all be there with support.  But at a unveiling like this, they probably wouldn't have much presence.

OT: No.  At first I was a little underwhelmed, but the more I thought about it, the more I believe this was a very good way to deliver a conference.  Admitting mistakes made in the past.  Games front & centre.  Developers, developers, developers *continues chant*.

There's a whole 10 months or so to reveal the system and reveal a hell of a lot more games.  E3; Gamescom & TGS make are all still coming, and Sony nearly always has a big presence at all of them.  People are just expecting too much, too soon.  For what this conference was (telling us about the aims of the console), I think it definitely succeeded.

I was actually excited to see the conference but somehow i felt Sony could have done more.
I think the social aspects of PS4 are really good. Don`t know if people are really going to use them all, but in terms of building relationships, it`s pretty good - what i imagined for Wii U, actually... part of it.

Unless Sony presents something big in how the Eye Toy and DS4 are going to be used, i was hoping for something new.

The only three games that, too me, made some impact were Killzone, the Capcom game and QD`s demo.
I think Killzone looked great. Not the actual gameplay, but the actual world. Seemed more alive to me than when the gameplay kicked in.
The other two games were really impressive, but they looked too real. It`s like it`s not a game anymore and i`m not really a fan of that sense of realism.

The other two moments for me were when Media Molecule started using the Move - for some reasons Wii Music came to mind.
SE on stage seemed big and as a Nintendo fan i feared the words "Final Fantsay VII". What a relief! :)

I was thinking and I have an idea that the reason of this underwhelming starts from PS3 launch... I remember i was watching PS3 trailers of Killzone2, Lair, UFC (I think it was UFC) with amazing graphics, physics and animations... it was WOW!!!! But then when the actual games start coming out, we all've seen that this trailers was a lie, and most of the PS3 games are just uplifted PS2 games with HD (more or less), shaders, better lightning and textures.
So now we were waiting for 6 years old promises to became true - but in the trailers we just saw the same games again... Yes, they have better resolutions, lightning, draw distances - but essentially the games stay the same. This is where MY underwhelming come from...

Yeah it was a disappointment...but it did set E3 up nicely...I mean they did get all of the specs out of the way at this conference for the PS4 so I doubt they'll waste too much time on it. E3 will be bananas

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

It was a lot more enjoyable than the Wii U unveiling I can tell you that. Sony seem to know what they are doing this time round and it feels good.

Killzone and infamous looked great. Good job Square showing us a vido we've seen months ago. Into/outro was kool(IMO). Capcom...who cares about them. The whole sharing thing is lame, like when the said "...like the PS3 with screen shots" (refering to the video sharing on the PS4). WHO TOOK AND SHARED SCREEN SHOTS....anyone. Playing a friends game for them.....how bout you go to there house and help them? Thats being SOCIAL. The new profile looks promising. No Kaz or Jack. New FF, oh just like how you announced FF13v 6 years ago bravo square, we want 15 andXHD HURRY UP.It was great but disapointing at the same time.

I guess I was a little disappointed. The console, judging be the specs, seems overpowered. And we saw so little gameplay. It was mostly footage that looked more like movie trailers than anything else. If someone told me Knack was a new Pixar movie and not a video game, I would believe him.

Maybe we'll get more information at E3 about how PS4 games PLAY, and not how they LOOK. But right now I'm worried about the design philosophy behind the console.

I know many people on this site are super excited about PS4, and I don't mean to take anything away from you. This is just my personal impression. There's a still a lot of time until PS4 goes on sale, so maybe things will change for the better.

I was very satisfied with the event, they showed a lot about the console and demoed some really cool looking games.

You could definitely tell that it was more of a plea to their investors and the press to start believing in them again. Not much gameplay and no actual console shown is proof it wasnt directed towards the general public.
