Forums - Gaming - Why is MS so quiet on the Next Xbox and could it hurt them?

 

Is it a mistake from MS to let Sony announce first?

And theres the stigma right there. Apparantly Sony makes games because they love their fans, but MS is just doing it as its forced and just want to shut gamers up........do you see how wrong that sounds?

MS never had many 1st party studios, and only now have they had the profitability to expand their studios. Guess it never occured to you that MS may want to diversify their offerings, and that Sony is in it for the money like everyone else.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

These days forums are overrun by Sony fans, that explains the ''hype''. When MS makes an announcement, the media will surely pick up on it.

E3 doesnt go on CNN. When a new console gets air time or is revealed the news is all over it. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft all get interviews with the public press after they unleash a new console. Essentially this meeting means more, kind of like CES. E3, Gamescom and that ilk get left to the gamers.

Sony announce their console so hype is on them while ms is silent, with the ps4 out of the way what else can Sony announce? Small features and games for the ps4 sure but nothing as big as a full new console. Soon the hype will fall on Microsoft the new console usually gets the hype, we've seen so many games already and most consumers won't even know of its functionality. The hype will swing back. Ms have positioned themselves so well, they didn't get that 50 billion in cash reserves from not knowing what they're doing!

In this, as in getting the announcement buzz, yes, they pretty much mean nothing. Sony might have smart not showing the unit today because then they have something to grab attention after the Nextbox reveal. But if the Nextbox reveal is at least as good as the PS4 reveal then it's the Nextbox that will be uppermost in the mind of many uncommitted buyers come launch time.

Of course we all know it's only the hardcore fan who pays the launch price, and they are far from uncommitted. So perhaps in some ways it really doesn't matter because the masses only get into the new gen after 1 or 2 years and 1 or 2 price cuts. So as long as the buzz for any console is good soon after launch then the long term sales prospects, all things being equal, are pretty good.

Sony has a huge advantage against Microsoft now. All the cool social media features are now "claimed" to be Sony's innovation. On one hand now Microsoft can copy but on the other hand a lot of the conference will be "we've got that too!" The media will probably report it like this.
