People are saying that its not worth what Nintendo are charging. I can tell you it IS worth the price, am i the only one that thinks the gamepad is a top piece of kit? Being able to play Tekken etc on the gamepad whilst the wife watches tv is a simple yet effective feature, and as stated the browser is excellent.
Another thing that rarely gets mentioned is uninterupted gamplay. maps, inventory, weapons selection etc is so much smoother having a second touch screen, instead of pausing a game to select weapons or view a map, thus not breaking up gameplay.
WiiU will be a slow burner, but i see a lot of potential ahead and dont regret my investment one bit.

The wii U had a strong launch this christmas despite what many have suggested, Selling more then double what  the ps3/360 sold in the same period. But since the end of the holiday season, the system has seen terrible sales in line with the troubled PSVita and in some cases is being outsold by the Vita (europe). Unlike sony, nintendo is in the position introduce a price cut to the Wii U and has added pressure as the arrival of competing next gen systems are soon the arrival and are grabbing all the headlines. Following Nintendo's dramatic and almost unnecessary price slash on the 3DS in 2011, we can only assume they will do this to the wii u. With no strong software expected to change it fortunes until fall (unless wii fit U surprises us) then a price cut is almost a given.

Would it be silly to pick up a Wii U now? I was considering it but looking at evidence it seems in the next few months we'll see the inevitable. Anyone else want to pick up he system but afraid of missing out on the potential for a $199/$249 deal. Or maybe you think nintendo will just ride it out the price and wait to see how Mario Kart and Wind Waker HD change its sales this fall?

@bolded: nope. Nintendo thought it would be good to adopt Sonys startegy and start the console loss-leading. They are in the same position as Sony with the Vita: they can't cut the price the first year as they already lose money on produced units. You can't expect a price cut fast. Maybe before the holidays, November or so. But no earlier.

Yes, I'm waiting for the now inevitable pricedrop (preferably $250 for the delux but I MIGHT take the plunge for $300), as well as Smash Bros and Mario Kart. By the time those games come out, there will be NSMB, Monster Hunter, Wonderful 101, and probably Yoshi in addition, which would be enough to convince me to get one.

I totally understand people wanting to wait for a less expensive product, but I don't think there will be a price cut anytime soon.

Mario Kart, ZeldaU and price cut.

The reason why the Vita can't take a price cut is because sony's financial state as a company which is bleeding heavily from sectors other then video games . Financially nintendo are not comparable to sony and have steady income from software and 3DS sales, they also probably have reserves deeper then we can imagine. They risk of loosing far more then what was at stake with the 3DS because the wii U could end up selling N64 numbers if all goes wrong. You have to to do what necessary to survice, hence why sony cut price on the ps3 even when they were already selling units at a loss 5x greater when what nintendo is seeing with the Wii U.

Yes but I don't expect one in the next 6 months. I'll buy one when I can get a Premium bundle for €279

price cut wont come until the earliest at autumn.

The question is to buy it now for Monster Hunter 3 ultimate or to wait until X comes out, for me.

Financially Nintendo has a better standing, but there is no better way to burn away your cash-reserves than to take such a move. although it could be clever - as long as the competition isn't released yet it could secure Nintendo the headstart they were hoping on with the earlier release. But it would be a highly risky move: if it only brings potential future buyers to buying the device now Nintendo wins nothing but loses money on sales. If on the other hand they bring people to buying a WiiU INSTEAD of a PS4 or Nextbox, that would help Nintendo. But I wouldn't bet on that. Anyways, the pricecut without games is useless. So if a pricecut comes this year, it will be alongside games. Windwaker and Mario Kart maybe.
