The reason why the Vita can't take a price cut is because sony's financial state as a company which is bleeding heavily from sectors other then video games . Financially nintendo are not comparable to sony and have steady income from software and 3DS sales, they also probably have reserves deeper then we can imagine. They risk of loosing far more then what was at stake with the 3DS because the wii U could end up selling N64 numbers if all goes wrong. You have to to do what necessary to survice, hence why sony cut price on the ps3 even when they were already selling units at a loss 5x greater when what nintendo is seeing with the Wii U. |
Financially Nintendo has a better standing, but there is no better way to burn away your cash-reserves than to take such a move. although it could be clever - as long as the competition isn't released yet it could secure Nintendo the headstart they were hoping on with the earlier release. But it would be a highly risky move: if it only brings potential future buyers to buying the device now Nintendo wins nothing but loses money on sales. If on the other hand they bring people to buying a WiiU INSTEAD of a PS4 or Nextbox, that would help Nintendo. But I wouldn't bet on that. Anyways, the pricecut without games is useless. So if a pricecut comes this year, it will be alongside games. Windwaker and Mario Kart maybe.
