I don't think most people from other countries think most Americans are like that, but they tend to believe that (for some reason) there are far more uneducated and trashy people in the United States than there are in similarly developed nations.

this is why people see americans as ignorant, why do you guys always do this?

this whole "first world country" or "Most powerful country" thing.

Didn't know people still used 1st world, third world ect.

Is there a second world?  Never heard of that.

I thought poeple just essentially said now "developed country or not"  Not sure what qualifies as developed, but I'm not doubting Americans aren't arogant, but isn't almost every country in a way arogant.  I mean what good is your country if you don't believe you are the best?  I would hope that every country believes they are #1.

There's technically a definition of "Second World Countries" it usually refers to former communist-socialist countries (Russia, Eastern Europe, etc), but it's more like a theoretical definition more than a practical one.

When combining these "world" definitions they not necessarily refer to economic value alone, but political, social and cultural value. Even though I hate the term Third World Country this one refers to countries that can have a capitalist government but have a decent percentage of poverty, communist government that are rich or absolute monarchies (So a lot of aspect need to be taken into consideration).

There's also a new term called Fourth World Country, but that is rarely use and refers to indigenous peoples living within or across state boundaries.

This always cracks me up.

If other developed countries aren't watching TV what are they doing?

Probably playing games on their TV or on the computer. Which to me is the same damn thing.

It's the same amount of eye strain and throw in some wrist detoriation down the road.

They aren't all reading books or going for daily jogs

Don't forget the US works more hours per week then any country, at least compared to this old study.

http://20somethingfinance.com/american-hours-worked-productivity-vacation/

Yep, could just be we're exhausted from working and have very little paid holidays. (Holy crap @ Finland)

Wow, I need to move to Finland!

Is that really a zero for US? I get 17/days of paid time off a year + your regular main holidays and all of Dec. 24th-Jan. 2nd.

Perhaps that is for contract workers.  My contract company only gives paid holidays after 1200 hours worked (includes overtime)  Right when I almost accumulated 1200 for paid holidays they laid me off and I started at 0 againYou have to get 1800 or 2000 hours for a 1 week paid vacation (doesn't include overtime).

Remember the lonely contract worker!!! We get fucked in the ass every day!  At least I have a job but that isn't saying too much.

What? That's ridiculous. In Germany you have the RIGHT to have at least 20 days of vacation per year (if you work 5 days/week, it does not matter how long you work at each day), but 30 days of vacation are pretty common. You really do get fucked in the ass...

Wow, that sucks.

Makes me appreciate my job more then. I actually hate it, but can't complain when I get 7am-3:30pm as my work hours and I get a ton of vacation time while seeing other jobs give shit.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I believe that data is erroneous. Here's another chart that has America at #1, but not by much:

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

From what I understand, these are mandatory vacation in the listed countries by law. I think most in the US get some paid vacation, it just isn't by law.

Correct I believe. (Phoenix Wright please correct me if I'm wrong) where as here we have to earn vacation/depending on contract of employeer.

I work in retail and get 3 paid weeks of vacation off a year and close to a week of personal time after working 11 YEARS for said company. To accue personal time I also most not call out for sometime. I didn't call out of work for a year and I ended up with 28 days of paid time off. Going to a new company I would have to work a full year without any paid time off and would most likely get just one week of vacation and a personal day or two. If I'm part time? Forget it, I wouldn't get any paid time off at all.

Also working in retail I may work every single holiday (with the exception of Christmas day, which they have been trying to take away for years) so theres not a single holiday day I am off besides Christmas.

I can request unpaid time off to relax but um... wouldn't get paid so it would kinda suck lol.

It's just that simple.

And this is why we have some stupid shows - need to fill slots with content for a populace that watches entirely too much television.

I average probably about 1-2 hours  week if that on most weeks.  The only shows i ever watch is The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Big Bang Theory.  Different times of the year as well.

Also the state I live in has around 35% obesity which is absolutely pathetic so i understand people judging america because i judge my own state.

are you telling me that one out if 3 people in your state are obese? Thats insane!!! There was an obese guy in my town, its a 60.000 people big town, and there was just ONE obese guy and everybody knew him, it was even famous..lol

Yes.  I know this will sound horrible but if Im ever by myself at a store and Im bored Ill count off how many over weight people I see before leaving the store.  It is always around 1 half the people I see.

Just go to Walmart during busy hours and count how many fat asses that are blocking your path, walking incredibly slow, or in scooters due to being too overweight.

This might help unless you can't read.  If so then I suggest this.
