lol nice edit. I'm just saying the criteria is quite odd for an "Active" userbase. No need to overreact. The numbers are good, just weird how they arrived upon them.

Sony counts all time accounts, groups PS3 with Vita, and with no mention of PS Plus users since its inception. Id say the criteria from your favourite company has a lot more to be desired.

No doubt. I hate how secret companies are in such situations. Sony isn't my favorite company though.

Out of console makers, it is my favorite. By no means is it anywhere near my favorite company though.

Just so you know, we do not really like Apple fans around here.

Do Apple fans even like Apple fans?

So, there are only 46 million active Xbox user accounts...hmmm, that's kinda low considering many people have multiple accounts.

I figured out why they would use 8 months.
8 months from feb, catches everyone that has used live at just under 6 months of the last christmas, which would include users that had a 6 month, or used their 3 free accounts for a month and then bought a three month, etc etc.
Then 6 months after Christmas, we hit summer, where a lot of people go away, so subscriptions might actually be quite low.
Of note, in 2011 we got updates to live membership every 3 months or so, but in 2012 we did not.

Twitter Proof sorry but Live is the best service and biggest out there ahhaha

Made me LOL so hard some sony fanboys comments about Live Stats i just stip my coffee TROOLOLOL

Again, Microsoft only Reports ACTIVE USERS (i.e have at least signed once in the last 8 months).

IF THEY WERE GOING TO REPORT MEMBER SINCE 2005 THERE WOULD VE OVER 100 MILION SINCE HALO 3 ALONE WAS CLOSING 25M LAST YEAR ON LEADERBOARDS.

Anything else you guys are saying is wishfull thinking, if Halo 3 was closing 25 milions players that means Call o Duty is way above 30, all of them alone on Xbox Live.

Ballmer said this long time ago on a e3 interview.

LOL people really think 46m is from members hahahahaha how in hell HAHAHAHA

When Most people have made 3 free 1 month accounts just to boost Halo 3 ranks or boost Call of Duty prestiges.

This Active, not all-time... All- Time is above 100m, you can bet on that.

Xbox Live is a monster, DEAL WITH IT!

NOTE: ACTIVE USERS ALSO MEANS SILVER MEMBERS, SO, NO. THERE ARE NOT 46M GOLD MEMBERS BUT YES THERE WILL BE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Lol sign in once in 8 months and you're active? How arbitrary is that?

"IF THEY WERE GOING TO REPORT MEMBER SINCE 2005 THERE WOULD VE OVER 100 MILION SINCE HALO 3 ALONE WAS CLOSING 25M LAST YEAR ON LEADERBOARDS."

Tell me how on an install base of 74m are there 100m accounts?

No need bloat numbers here...oh wait, I guess there is...lol once in 8 months. Sounds like facebook.

PSN

You can create mutiple PSN accounts (I have 3) and don't forget the PSP, it also requires a PSN account. :)

Why so much damage control?

it's pretty normal to count 8 months as active.. Hotmail/Live mail set your account inactive after 8,5 months.. Google does it at 9 months.. Twitter has a 6 month policy.. Ea has 24 months.. 8 months is fine

thanks for that... didnt realise.

makes sense now.

Not for dsgrue3 though.

Yeah let's compare email accounts to XBL. Makes perfect sense. Naturally they should use the same basis for active accounts because they are exactly the same thing. Well-spotted good chap.

Yes ofcourse.  Many use their hotmail accounts for Xbox live. I always get an mail if I add points to XBLA.

I have to agree--come talk to me when "active users" is defined as once a month and, even better, once a week, like, I dunno, people that watch cable TV, etc. Defining it as once ever 8-months is patently ridiculous and was clearly arrived at to grossly inflate the numbers.
