Forums - Gaming - Orbis/Durango rumors sound disappointing

Cause that touchscreen is really helping push Wii U sales, right?

I agree with the Kinect point, but its not for the core gamer, it's for the casual gamer. We'll have to wait and see if it actually appeals to them, though.

As for graphics, you guys keep hoping its not going to be much of a leap. Just wait and see. Especially since most games were sub-HD this gen, while most games next gen (at least from the PS4) are going to 1080P, while boasting higher poly counts and higher res textures.

The PS4 rumours sound damn awesome to me.

  • DVR-like recording capabilities for games – the console will be able to record up to 15 minutes of continuous gameplay or take screenshots with a "share" button. Video can be edited and published online from the console.
  • Gaikai
  • Super fast and efficient OS
  • Fuckton of new IPs
  • Great specs (6-9x PS360)
  • Affordable ($400)
Can't wait to see what else it (and Xbox) will offer.

you forgot to say Sony will be making a profit day one with it

Sure... they definitely won't. They'll probably take a significant loss (maybe $100, I doubt any more than that going by the specs), which they can make back relatively easily if the console sells OK.

Making a profit on the console from day 1 is not important.

I refuse to read that gigantic wall of text.

It is for Sony. They can not afford to take huge losses, so Sony has to get thier console launch right or else they are screwed.

I don't think anyone expects them to take huge losses. $100 loss at launch with seemingly small R&D costs is not huge...

One question: Have you seen the difference between a PC game and a console game on a big HDTV? 'Cause it sounds to me like you haven't.

And seriously, why does it feel like everyone expects "new ways to play" to only come from gimmicky hardware rather than the actual games?

this is how I feel.  Developers will innovate to stay competitive with each other.  I just want the hardware to give them the power to do that and the companies to give me value (PS+, free online, funding their exclusives, and supporting new IPs).  I hope the DS3 is compatible if they have some expensive touchpad controller (really don't even see how that would make anything easier since you wouldn't be able to tell where you were tapping relative to the screen) I'll just use it.

i hope it's more then just a touch screen.

I hope it's less than a touch screen, as in 360 style triggers, Vita style Dpad, and a little bigger.

Sony will never abondon hardcore gamers because casual gamers don't like Sony.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
