Forums - Gaming - Orbis/Durango rumors sound disappointing

this is how I feel.  Developers will innovate to stay competitive with each other.  I just want the hardware to give them the power to do that and the companies to give me value (PS+, free online, funding their exclusives, and supporting new IPs).  I hope the DS3 is compatible if they have some expensive touchpad controller (really don't even see how that would make anything easier since you wouldn't be able to tell where you were tapping relative to the screen) I'll just use it.

The touchpad should not be expensive at all. The rumors suggest a very DualShock like controller, so it might just be slightly bigger to place a simple at most 3" touchpad like on a laptop. That tech isn't costly. They might go the route and have a cursor too. DS3 will probably be compatible since I can't see Sony not allowing for the analogs to navigate their OS. All they have to do is keep bluetooth and that won't be costly at all.

The expensive controller will be the Vita and that is a console itself so it serves purpose outside of the home. The Vita price will go down over time too. It is an optional controller that will tap into asynchronous gameplay concepts that will create a multiplat friendly link to Wii U games, but it should be pretty easy to make a game not need the second screen to play. Have in game menus rather than second screen menus, etc.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

that would be fine.  If they do that I think it should be a screen and not a controller because of what I said in my first post.  I didn't mean making it longer btw I meant the grips being a little larger and possibly having a more contoured surface.  I could also see them fixing the triggers, making the Dpad more like the Vita's only larger, and doing something about the analog sticks wearing out (they start to get some sort of coating on them and end up sticking for me over time).

The DS3 is still my favorite controller but there are other improvements that can be made before they start adding screens and there's so much they can do with software to have selling points (of course Gaikai is probably the biggest) I don't know why they would have to copy WiiU especially after this initial consumer response to it.

1. no one is gonna read that
2. PS4 doesn't need gimmicky controls.
3. PS4 rumors sound awesome: 7970M gpu(18 GCN, 32 ROPs), 8 core cpu and 4GB GDDR5 ram
4. You don't know what you're talking about, our tvs may have been 1080p but our games weren't, that is about to change.

Amazing how few actually counter any of my points. All the while, many of you complain that you basically can't read something longer than 3 sentences. Wow, i guess idiocracy really is coming true. Brawndo, the thirst mutilator.

And seriously, why does it feel like everyone expects "new ways to play" to only come from gimmicky hardware rather than the actual games?

Because many game styles have been stagnant for the last couple generations, we get the same old FPS and other genres we've had for decades. And it's amazing how some people completely lack imagination & think that a dual analog controller is the ultimate evolution & there's no need to improve it anymore.

as long as the PS4 does 1080p at 120fps and costs $400 it's ok, but i personally doubt the PS4 will do 1080p 120fps and cost $400.

i hope it's more then just a touch screen.

I hope it's less than a touch screen, as in 360 style triggers, Vita style Dpad, and a little bigger.

Sony already had a controller with a touch pad, the keyboard that fits on the DS3.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Cause that touchscreen is really helping push Wii U sales, right?

I agree with the Kinect point, but its not for the core gamer, it's for the casual gamer. We'll have to wait and see if it actually appeals to them, though.

As for graphics, you guys keep hoping its not going to be much of a leap. Just wait and see. Especially since most games were sub-HD this gen, while most games next gen (at least from the PS4) are going to 1080P, while boasting higher poly counts and higher res textures.

Dude the Kinect has already appealed to casual gamers did you even see ow much it sold?
