Sure... they definitely won't. They'll probably take a significant loss (maybe $100, I doubt any more than that going by the specs), which they can make back relatively easily if the console sells OK.
Making a profit on the console from day 1 is not important.

It is for Sony. They can not afford to take huge losses, so Sony has to get thier console launch right or else they are screwed.

I don't think anyone expects them to take huge losses. $100 loss at launch with seemingly small R&D costs is not huge...
