Sony out muscle Sega and Nintendo and now M$ out muscle Sony. Karma at its best.

It can't be karma when Sony originally had NO interest in persuing the Playstation project after Nintendo abandoned it.  It was Ken Katuragi that pushed it.  And to think that both Nintendo and Sega didn't have their own serious missteps during that same time period that helped propel the PlayStation namebrand is either ignorant or just plain denial.  Your biasness at its best.

If your really believe that Sony have absolutely nothing to do with the downfall of Sega then you are more ignorant then I am. Your bias, I'm bias we are same breed.

Please don't quote because you are annoying. You are one of the only TWO people I don't like on this site. Thanks.

Where did I said that?  It wasn't even implied. Please do not put words into my mouth just because I present a valid point backed by facts that you cannot counter without twisting.  Yes, I'd be annoyed as well if I jumped the gun and someone called me out on it.  Actually, I would not be annoyed because I admit to my mistakes and acknowledge them.  And it wasn't a mistake that I just quoted you.  My right, my choice.  You chose to be annoyed.  it's all you, baby.

You gotta relax son. You're a PS guy, I'm a Ninty/Sega/MS guy. When we look at gaming there nothing but bias between us so I don't know why you are so upset about my opinion that Sony had a big hand in the downfall of Sega.

We both need to stop derailing the thread. If you got anything else to say just write on my wall.

Yes, we did derailed.  But PS guy? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  In a nutshell, I find favor with Nintendo and Sega before Sony regardless of the quantity of games I have for the PlayStation consoles.  I'm a gamer that prefers Nintendo and Sega, but I'm still a gamer who plays games regardless of platform.  So now you know.

I saw this earlier, read it and ignored it. It's a bit of a rambling load of nonsense.

He also left 10 years ago, so what the hell does he know?

Its fairly clear the xbox business makes decent money now. Silly.

The author and source must have ignored the quarterly financials.

As far as the reason given that MSFT wanted to get into the games business to combat Sony, that might very well be true.  Companies often see others as a threat and decide to just get into the business and worry about the numbers at a later point.  Even so, MSFT has done well for itself in the games arena, nobody can take that away from them.

Nothing really new but it should open some of these people's eyes. The Xbox business isn't this immensely profitable division for Microsoft like some make it out to be.

Well you should understand there is no "Xbox division", it's bunched up with a division where MS sends all of its unprofitables/R&D/aquisitions. The Xbox itself though, right now, is very profitable. So when people say that, they're correct. They are still chipping away at the billions they lost to get the console going and that's fine, that was part of their 20 year plan.

He left when Xbox wasn't doing so hot.......360 has been great since 2008 on profit.

Before xbox started microsoft was ignoring gamers as much as possible. Some train/plane sims and AOE and a diablo clone and out of nothing they presented the xbox pretending to be gamers best friend.I always supposed they only will use console gaming just as another tool to bring windows to the people. But they did a great job with console online gaming and though i got angry because they dropped xbox1 so fast the 360 line up was so good and peter moore the right man doing the right job and i started believing that they have really interesst in gaming but since he left and after kinect and the massive kinect support and moving away from core gaming turning the ultimate game console into casual best friend multimedia machine I knew I was right with not trusting them.

And being MS friend was extremely dangerous in the 80ies and 90ies because they were either trying to push you out of the game or to take you over(or if you are too big just take over the part of the company they are interessted in)and I think if MS-"friend"Nokia is starting to get into big trouble with their mobile division MS(who has put 2 MS workers at nokias top positions)will come and "save" nokia by microsofting them.

If the xbox 3 is released with windows8 and kinect we will see for sure that 1-2 year after xbox3 release the first party core game support will be dropped the same way it happened with the 360 when moore left(but i'm pretty sure the xbox3 starting line up will be really good)

Making Age of Empires is ignoring gamers as much as possible?....

....dude

Was that interview held in some kind of trailer park?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Well even early on it seemed like MS was primarily looking to diversify. Its clear MS didn't step in expecting big profits and continued on even after huge losses on the original Xbox. It was probably the biggest financial disaster in the industry... until PS3 rolled around.

I think most of us knew Sony before the Playstation, but putting out a game console gave them a cult following. MS accomplished the same thing with gamers via the Xbox.

Either way, it looks like the Xbox brand really has become a financially worthwhile endeavor. I presume the most profitable aspect of Xbox is those Live memberships. I've heard guesstimates as high as 20 million Gold members. If that's true, that's a nice chunk of change.

Those Xbox lIve Gold subs are extremely optimistic. I believe the last actual number we had was like 12million, and that doesn't mean these people are paying $60 a year, they could be finding sales for these, they could be paying for the 3month Gold subs. It's end-gen and I expect Gold subs to be no more than 15m.(being a bit optimistic)

Xbox is the only MS item in my house but as a company they didnt build any good will with me to want to purchase any of their other products. I'm on my 2nd xbox, first 1 died they charge me for live, have terrible cust service they have basically abandoned developing exclusive games for the 360 a year ago except for Halo and Forza and Gears.
