Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart is Nintendo's most valuable franchise

Is Mario Kart the most valuable series in Nintendo's portfolio?

Yes, it's Mario Kart 35 32.71%

No, it's still Super Mario 43 40.19%

It's gotta be Wii Sports 2 1.87%

Ice Climbers, duh 7 6.54%

Something else entirely 11 10.28%

I'm too drunk/tired to think. Results? 9 8.41%

Total:107

As said before, pokemon. Those games sell a lot of systems, and also tons of games. And the console games have always been kinda off from the main series.

NO, Pokemon is Nintendo most valuable franchise.

Apart from a couple spikes in 2006 and 2010, the franchise has been in decline since the groundbreaking sales of the first two generations. Also, the highest selling console game, while a huge success, didn't break six million units sold. Compare that to Mario Kart or Super Mario.

black and white is tracking ahead of dp, and how can the series be on a decline, when ruby and sapphire exists?
pokemon is only growing, face it :)

Pokemon 1998: 31.27
Pokemon 1999: 23.10
Pokemon 2002: 15.85
Pokemon 2004: 10.49
Pokemon 2006: 18.04
Pokemon 2009: 11.48
Pokemon 2010: 14.59
Pokemon 2012: 6.16 (so far)

If we trust the VGChartz numbers, then there is decline. It's still a monster of a franchise, but it's not growing very much.

u have got to be kidding me.  http://mynintendonews.com/2013/01/30/pokemon-black-white-2-have-sold-over-7-5-million-worldwide/

Pokemon is definetely not growing when the sales haven't come close to the first generation...

it grew in this generation though, so it did grow.

Okay fine you're being nonsensical and missing the point. I'll rephrase

Pokemon's main franchise is smaller than it was in Red/Blue/Yellow by a lot. So the Main franchise is not the biggest it's ever been.

ohh for the love of god. did i ever say that? i'm just saying it's growing, which it is,

Within this gen it's gotten smaller every release. Diamond/Pearl sold more than Black/White which will sell more than Black/White 2.

Black/White 2. isn't main game.. for the love of god, you should be comparing it to platinum, and Black/White is tracking ahead of dp... fail

look at graph... how by any statistical analysis (if you've studied at all), would that show a growing trend. That's like saying Final Fantasy is Growing Because Final Fantasy XIII sold more than Final Fantasy XII. Do you agree with that statement as well?

i am going to take this slow for u. dp, did not sell 18m in 2 years, and like i said, Black/White is tracking ahead of dp, and it will eventually outsell it. and here is a little fun fact for u, Black/White 2 is the second highest selling sequel Behind yellow.

Black/White 2 isn't the same thing thing because it is a sequal to black/white.
Pokemon Yellow, Crystal, Platinum weren't sequals to their relative games. Just Extra Flavors.

Fine you win if you cut off the overall data at GBA, then the Pokemon Franchise is growing barring no other factors.

But, you admit Final Fantasy is growing then?

FFXII 5.6 Million, FFXIII 6.71 million.

Mario is just valuable that is all, Mario Kart isn't separate from Mario Party or Super Mario, it's still Mario at the end of it all.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

ok, that's it, i'm done

Mario franchise in general is nintendo's best selling franchise at 500million units total sold. Pokemon comes second.

WII U // PC // 3ds XL // VITA

Aboslutely true, Mario Kart is one of the most valueable Nintendo franchises, since it's the flagship of all Nintendo's accessible multiplayer titles. Local multiplayer in general, is the main selling point of Nintendo home consoles since the N64: Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye007, Smash Bros Melee, Wii Sports, Mario Kart Wii, Smash Bros Brawl, New Super Mario Bros Wii....all games based on local multiplayer.

I'm actually a little surprised that Super Mario 3D Land has outsold Mario Kart 7.

If NSMB2 didn't come in and cannibalize some of SM3D Land's sales, it would probably have an even bigger gap.
