It's gotta be Wii Sports 2 1.87%

Ice Climbers, duh 7 6.54%

Something else entirely 11 10.28%

NO, Pokemon is Nintendo most valuable franchise.

Apart from a couple spikes in 2006 and 2010, the franchise has been in decline since the groundbreaking sales of the first two generations. Also, the highest selling console game, while a huge success, didn't break six million units sold. Compare that to Mario Kart or Super Mario.

black and white is tracking ahead of dp, and how can the series be on a decline, when ruby and sapphire exists?
pokemon is only growing, face it :)

Pokemon 1998: 31.27
Pokemon 1999: 23.10
Pokemon 2002: 15.85
Pokemon 2004: 10.49
Pokemon 2006: 18.04
Pokemon 2009: 11.48
Pokemon 2010: 14.59
Pokemon 2012: 6.16 (so far)

If we trust the VGChartz numbers, then there is decline. It's still a monster of a franchise, but it's not growing very much.

Pokemon series have sold over 200 million units

You can add Pokemon cartoon, merchandising and Pokemon Trading Card game that Nintendo is making bank off of.

Pokemon series is a beast, no doubt. I think it's second only to Mario when it comes to video-game franchises (including merchandise and multimedia).

But if we're talking about selling video game platforms, I still say Mario Kart or Mario push the most sales. They sell on portable systems AND home consoles, and they sell more. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl sold about 18 million units. Mario Kart DS cleared 22 million. And the gap in console numbers is even bigger.

Pokemon is definetely not growing when the sales haven't come close to the first generation...

Those sales figures aren't exactly true though. Because Yellow isn't included, and neither is platinum.

Take it up with VGChartz.

It doesn't change the overall trajectory of the series. It peaked in 1998-1999. I'm not taking anything away from it. Those are just the numbers.

Okay fine you're missing the point. I'll rephrase

Pokemon's main franchise is smaller than it was in Red/Blue/Yellow by a lot. So the Main franchise is not the biggest it's ever been.

Within this gen it's gotten smaller every release. Diamond/Pearl sold more than Black/White which will sell more than Black/White 2. If you make a graph out of it it will look something like this. How by any statistical metric, is it growing?

I do agree that Mario is Nintendo's most important IP, regarding money. I think that there is no doubt that Mario games make more money than Pokémon if we compare Kart and 2D with Mainline Pokémon.
