Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: no plans for Wii U price cut

I don't think this completely rules out a price drop this year but I agree that doing it in the absence of big games may not be sufficient to change WiiU's present moment, and therefore would be a 'risky move'.

For those saying this is the same as the 3DS, it isn't. 3DS was launched at a price that was too high, with Nintendo making a tidy profit on each console i.e. they were being greedy. They were then forced into a situation where they had to drop the price to an extent that they were then losing money on every console sold.

With WiiU Nintendo is already losing money on every console sold. Nintendo feels that they have the price for the WiiU as low as they can reasonably go at this time (i.e. they are not being greedy like with the 3DS), but concede they do need to do a better job of highlighting the value of the system. Which they do.

What lessons did they learn from the launch of the 3DS? The launch of the Wii U shows me that they did not learn anything good.

This needs to be said - and read by everyone - once more. Go a head; read it again.

Nintendo didn't learn shit!!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Agreed. Only 4 of the launch games were actually "old" games: Batman, Darksiders, Ninja Gaiden, Mass Effect 3. Tekken, Fifa, Just Dance 4 missed only a few weeks/days.

The lineup was great, I just think that although NSMBU is really a lot of fun, WiiU really needed one of  those big franchises right at its launch. Something that could actually surprise people, like a new Metroid, or F-Zero, or Starfox, something like that.

Still too early for a price cut, but it will surely happen before the Holiday Season. I bet someday around July, August...

How about more games Nintendo? It only makes sense to pump out as many games as possible. Jeez Sony and Nintendo have no clue how to launch consoles or handhelds anymore huh?

This problem isn't exclusive to Sony and Nintendo. Have you forgotten how dramatic the launch of the 360 was?

I excluded MS because they haven't launched anything in 7 going on 8 years.

Not a huge surprise. It merely needs games!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

so are the 3m they sold, sold to customers or just shipped to retailers?

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I say they should wait at least until the end of march, when Rayman, Monster Hunter, and Lego City Stories will all be out. Not that any of those games will light the charts on fire, but it's at least SOMETHING notable, which they basically haven't had since NSMB and Zombi U at launch back in November. If sales still remain stagnant, Nintendo might want to swallow their pride and consider a price drop, as there aren't much else coming out after march for quite awhile besides Wii Fit. Pikmin is a good game in my book but let's be honest, it's not exactly a system seller.

Mario, Smash, and Kart are obviously the closest big ones, along with DQ in Japan, but who knows when those are coming. I say drop the price on the heels of 3D Mario, which will probably come late this year along with Yoshi and Zelda WW, and watch the sales rise at least to a respectable number for the holidays.
