Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: no plans for Wii U price cut

trestres said:

A price cut cannot and will not happen. It would simply kill off sales of the Wii U until that happens and what's even worse, will damage reputation of Nintendo's business model and ability to correctly predict and analyze the videogame industry.

Early adopters will be enraged and possibly abandoning the Nintendo ship next gen if not this one. And early adopters are the most critical adopters.

Iwata made this clear in today's business plan presentation. Q&A session is yet to come and I'm sure investors will repeatidly ask this question over and over again, and Iwata will keep on giving the same answers.

Didn't you see the irony and sarcasm in my post? I thought it was golden!

"The Wii U's Game Draught is as dry as the Sahara Desert at the moment.

What does that tell us? Precisely! A price cut."

Oh sorry hahah, my bad. I didn't get it.

However my main motives were to post that scary image of the evil Reggata

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.

It was quite scary. And I love that name... I may use it as my Trainers name in Pokemon X/Y!

The system will be dead if they let it sit at $350 and continue to post mediocre sales month after month.

Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit U aren't going to do crap-all, even 3D Mario won't help that much if 2D Mario is failing to sell the system.

Mario Kart is probably the only thing they can rush out this year that would have an impact on hardware sales.

I've always kinda felt though that Nintendo cared more about their handhelds than they do about their consoles (in recent times). They were willing to pull out an emergency price cut and secure Monster Hunter for the 3DS, the Wii U is probably not going to get anything like that and will be left to flounder so Nintendo doesn't have to incur any more losses.

Only price reduction I see is discontinuation of the basic model and replacement with the Deluxe at $300. In that case it is a price cut yet it isnt...

Other than that they need to ride out the storm Vita style.
