Forums - Nintendo - Iwata discusses Wii U/3DS with investors!

How much inside info could iwata possibly have on Sony & micro's new systems ? He seems overly confident in his remarks about memory, CPU, gpu and the competition. Now I understand he won't talk I'll about his baby against the competition but I'm surprised he brought it up. Just my 2 cents.

His comment really doesn't make sense. Of course CPU and GPU are important. They are the most important part of the system besides the RAM and we know how Nintendo went cheap on that too.

Agreed. I think it is more a defensive mode against investors than making sense.

"wiiu want to do more collaboration with 3rd party developers and not just licensing"

I could be reading too much into it, but this to me suggests, Nintendo will not be getting many if any of the big games like GTAV.

So their only option is to create their own exclusive efforts in collaboration with a 3rd party developer to try and distinguish themselves from Sony and Microsoft next gen.

Ugh, all I ever hear out of Itawa and Nintendo is "INNOVATION! NEW  NEW NEW! We must find new ways to play games!" The obsession with "innovation" at Nintendo is getting as annoying as Sony and MS's obsession with horsepower. Just focus on games, Nintendo.

Also, troubling to hear there's no plan on a pricedrop anytime soon, though they could just be saying that so people like myself hold out and sales decrease more than they already have. I don't care if it takes 2 years, I just can't justify spending $350 on a Wii U. $300 is the absolute most I will spend on the deluxe, and there has to be a much stronger library than there is now for me to even consider it.

I say, don't bother with a price cut, just keep a steady output of games, and wait until you can afford to price cut.

I feel like that's what Nintendo is actually trying to do. They seem to have lowered the Wii U price to a point where they can't lower it anymore for awhile.

If it gets the games by next holiday, then I could see it doing well. You have to figure, that slowly, the cost to manufacture the U's will go down, and with a 3D mario game, or Mario Kart, I could see them feasibly making a decent profit this holiday.

People need to stop panicking, systems need games to sell. The Wii U doesn't have them yet.

want to enhance pad usage

google streetview has been delayed from end of jan to mid feb for japan, saying its an example of what want to do with pad in livingroom

r&d for handheld and console together now, plan is that software can work across each other with potentional for mid-long term

Me too... Skype... But glad they are at least putting more apps on their Pad.

@italics: Concentrate your development to one platform. Good from a software point of view.

And midterm...

Iwata is right not to cut the price. It would be a knee-jerk reaction that doesn't make sense in the short or long term. The Wii U just needs more games. Sales will pick up in March and will be healthy by the holidays.

They're not planning a Wii U price cut? Okay then....get ready for Vita-level sales through out the year.

Nintendo has the same problem with WiiU that Sony has with the Vita: they already lose money on the units sold. For Vita that may be break even now or soon, so Sony might be able to cut the price in the future, but surely wasn't at launch. WiiU is fresh out and will also need a year to reduce costs of manufacturing.

So yes, very comparable.

We will yet have to see, which impact the coming games will have, but I think it will not turn the WiiU to a success this year, maybe the sales can get moderate.
