You guys always complain about how Sony doesn't market it's games and when they do you say it's a waste of money. What do you guys want? |
"you guys". Dont group me with others when you dont know what i think.
Sony makes pretty good advertisement here in europe by sponsoring the champions league. That is very smart sponsoring.
One commercial over one game i dont think is good advertisement. Its a freaking cannon shot. It will hit some people you want to hit and alot that you dont necessarely do. It would be money better spend if you get your target more times, than audiences that dont care about you. If they sponsored the NFL for example (would be pricier but more effective), it would be money better spent. Just one commercial for astronomical values is not a good plan when you can have 10 for less that hit the target audience you want more effectively.
Also, its God of War, it hardly needs advertisment.
I am guessing these guys you're talking about are saying Sony's last year releases needed better advertisment. I dont think that would help at all. Things like little big planet are fads that are funny once but dont make for a steady franchise people want. playstation all star was a rip off of smash brothers, no once looks at that with good eyes. Last year flops were due to theme choices, not due to bad advertisment. The games just didnt resonate with enough people.

What are you meaning by that, though?

We're talking about Halo 4, Dude!! |
Oh, my bad. Well Halo 4 was said to be Microsofts most expensive game ever. I'd imagine development costs were higher than Halo 3, but taking a look at some of the things they did for it's release (the 50 foot glyph flown by helicopter over London etc.) It probably had a substantial marketing budget as well.

i did just wonder (with my first quote) how much companies have to pay per viewer if it's not superbowl.
3.8m sounds a lot for 30 seconds but 110m people watch it. if it costs 400k for a show with 15 million viewers it is not really that expensive anymore.

I wouldn't know how much when it's not the SuperBowl, they don't usually publish those numbers.
I wonder how much it is for the Olympics.
that would be such a stupid desicion. they would have to sell 100,000 copies at full price just to recuperate that ad. I can tell you this one ad will not generate that many sales. the majority of people who care will buy it without this ad

They sold their headquarters remember.

A lot of people who are fans of the franchise don't follow gaming news so they don't know about this game. Plus God of War is very popular in America you wanna know what else is popular in America too FOOTBALL so the 2 go along very well.

it could also boost future sales of the franchise (if they generate new fans) and ps3 sales.
