Forums - Nintendo - Calls for Wii U price cut begin after Nintendo financials

A price cut is a bad idea at this point. Better to hold off on that, even if it means squeaking by for the next few months. This isn't a 3DS situation at all, where Nintendo launched with an unprecedented profit margin.

I'm really interested in the Wii U's struggle, to be honest. I want to see how Nintendo fares when their hardware hasn't gone viral and if they can pull themselves up on software alone.

It took less than 5 Months for Nintendo to cut the price of 3DS by about one third.

People need to remember that.

They will cut WiiU price if they have to. No big games are releasing any time soon and sales are already off the edge of the cliff.

Just release some of the big games you're working on and patch them up later!

Horrible idea...I'm glad Nintendo doesn't have you as an adviser!!!

at least this time the analysts didn't call for Nintendo to go 3rd party or put flagship IPs on iOS/Android... that's a good sign. right?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Cutting price won't help the money losing structure and it won't provide long-term sales. Only software will do that as you need to provide incentive and value.

From the looks of it, we'll have to wait until March for that. Too bad Nintendo didn't money up some more 3rd party games to prevent the obvious, it haz no gamez comments.

While they are not great (quick ports), they are content. Though I think the overall content available is quite good, even if much of it is not exclusive.

I'm looking forward to the rest of 2013 considering just what Nintendo will provide on its own.

Selling over 3 million consoles in 6 weeks  in my opion is a respectable figure. I don't know about the rest of you.....

A better world wide economy would also help. Also out today was that the US saw a decrease in GDP for the fourth quarter of 2012. Not a great time for anyone.

The basic skew will be deemphasized in some if not all markets. A price cut will come after e3 but no later than the release of the other new consoles.

New games -- Pokemon X & Y for 3DS and MarioKart for WiiU -- will also help.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

It would increase sales and that's all that investors care about. Release another 2D Mario and a 3D one while you're at it! Finish up what you've already made of Zelda HD and sell the rest as DLC later.

They should actually release ALL of their titles that are currently in any sort of development, and ask gamers to donate towards the continued development of these projects.

It'll be like kickstarter.

yea it would be stupid to cut the price when ninty isn't making any money on them.

I hope so...and they can compensate by giving us an eShop GC worth the price of the price-cut.  I honestly, don't think that Nintendo's Wii U is that expensive relative to the price of the current gen systems.  PS360 was still selling $300-350 in 2011, if I am not mistaken.  The thing is that Nintendo didn't advertise enough how their systems differ from the current gen systems besides the controller.  Having a drought of games between release and now didn't help either.  Though 3 mil units sold in ~3 months is hardly a disaster the media and some fanboys make it to be.
