Forums - Nintendo - Calls for Wii U price cut begin after Nintendo financials

Don't know how Nintendo thought they could do Wii numbers with the WiiU. It has sold between Wii and HD consoles and sold at a launch price between those as well.

The games are coming (late but they are), I just think Nintendo need to make their Gamepad more useful with programs for it, like Art Academy or find the next WiiFit. I also said it before, but I'd love Skype on it :D

Dude...they never said they would do Wii numbers and nobody expected them to!!! That's an annoying statement with no basis!!! Besides Wii U doesn't need Wii numbers to be successful. IMHO as long as they keep away from selling Vita numbers (they are 3.1mil in ~2 months) they are gonna be ok.

This yearly report is very suspicious to me.

3DS is no longer beeing sold at a loss, Wii U had a minor loss but sold 2 games per console.
I was fully expecting Nintendo to post a profit this quarter. This is yearly results, so the losses are because of the 3DS, not because of the Wii U. But, at least they dont ignore the fact that Wii U needs help (thus nintendo direct).
Wish Sony was that clear when it came to the Vita so i would feel safer when buying one.

Actually the analysts here make no sense as they want Nintendo to stop losing money yearly, but they want a Wii U price cut, selling it at a loss. Who pays these guys?

I've become more and more convinced that these 'analysts' are being paid for by third party publishers who want the hardware manufacturers to subsidize game hardware as much as possible so that they can sell as much software as possible. They don't give a damn how much Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft bleed. In fact, the more money they lose, the stronger the publishers' position gets.

price cut? Its not doing good cuz of 3 reasons!

One its not known to the general public (the name doesn't help)
TWO no software is out, It sucks but its the truth!
THREE ps3 and Xbox360 have way cheaper price tag with a 7 year library! When next gen comes then talk, Only thing that needs a massive price cut is Vita

we have a winner ladies and gentlemen

btw VGC hella undertracked the Wii U as this was SOLD NUMBERS AT THE END OF 2012   with ~3.1 mil units compared to VGC's 2.5mil 01/19!!! That's a huge margin that needs to be corrected!!!!  http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/46284/wii-u-sales-3-million/

Wii U hasn't done all that well past three weeks, so if nintendo said 3.06mil units sold by dec 31st then i would put wii u (week ending jan 26) at around 3.18mil!

wat is the 29.84mil for 3DS represent? Life to Date sales or Shipped? Everyone keeps saying Shipped!

You could cut the price to $20. I still wouldn't buy it because there aren't any games I want for it yet.

exactly...I would like these same analyst to answer the question whether MS or Sony should pur their prime IPs on Android/iOS that they have been clamoring for Nintendo to do.

yea it would be stupid to cut the price when ninty isn't making any money on them.

I know but with 2GB of RAM, a new ppc750 with GX and PWR7 hybrid, and e6760 I doubt that Nintendo is losing much; esp with the Deluxe model.

i also think they would sale enough software to cover it anyway.

I would put it at ~3.3-3.4 myself (going with the famitsu charts etc) but that's not the point it's still undertracked by nearly a million...shame on VGC!!!

Nintendo appears to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand they need to do something to stimulate sales while on the other doing so now leaves them even more vulnerable at the end of the year when their competitors are likely to do their own price cuts on existing consoles while also launching brand new ones.

Though it is a tough decision Nintendo must stay the course until the holiday quarter. Not an ideal situation but it is what it is.
