Will around 1.8 million in sales be able to break the dev costs?

Probably; Xenoblade was making profit before it left Japan I believe; it's sold around 3x as much since then.
Dev costs will likely be paid for around the million mark, if not less. Depends on the size of the game, though.

Probably. Monolith Soft is good about managing limited resources, if Xenoblade is any indicator. And if I was Nintendo, I'd be preparing a DLC strategy too for further profit maximization.

How large do you expect it to be? I don't think Xenoblade's game world was quite as large (in sqaure kilometers) as Skyrim, though it did have a ton of verticality.

I expect it to be similar in size to Xenoblade, apart from more open like Skyrim. Whether or not it will have all the side stuff like those two games remains to be seen...
I fear that this may become a cult classic like TWEWY. Great game, but only a few played it. This thing needs exposure. Nintendo has to market this heavily. Xenoblade got decent sales with only an internet campaign backing them and word of mouth, they won't have the free advertisement this time.
Putting at the end of the Direct was a great move. Now, showcase it at E3, herald it as the savior of the JRPG and make sure it lives up to expectations.

I think it will sell 2m if the reviews are good and it arrives before the end of 2014.
