I feel like if they went with a classic 2D style Metroid, they would rather do that on the 3DS than the Wii U due to the fact that the Wii U is their first HD console.

True. 2D classic on the 3DS and glorious Prime on the U.
Having looked at the X unveiling as well as the Bayo behind the scenes, I'm getting pretty excited about the new Nintendo. They're taking that side of their business seriously. Even Shin Megami Tensei is huge for a Nintendo home console, and apparently there'll be more of these collaborations announced at the next ND.

Well, let's try to think this through. We have :
Mario 3D U, Mario Kart U, Smash Bros U, Yoshi U, Wind Waker U ---> Those game won't make ANY difference since they doesn't reach outside the traditional Nintendo audience.
Bayonetta 2 ---> development process so slow they can't even show gameplay after 4 months, let alone a vague release date.
Shin Megami Tensai X Fire Emblem, X(enoblade2?) ---> surely unteresting games but we know next to nothing about them. Definitely not changing the situation in the short/mid term.
New Zelda U ---> barely started. 2014 at best.
Not to mention that Nintendo just burned all of its trump cards for E3. What are they going to present against the next-gen behemots since they've just shown off their entire 2013/2014 line-up? Sony and Microsoft haven't said anything yet about what they prepare, we do know about some games like Hitman 6, BF4 or Rainbow 6 Patriots but there might be many many more, far enough to make the above line-up almost irrelevant from a market point of view.
My Troll Thread Detector is beeping... not sure if it's a defect though.

I've read the same thing from you at least twice already. Some of your statements are just wrong, and some of them are unlikely to be true.
I wonder if the same people "lol we saw expected games" will act and post the same once sequels are announced for the other consoles.

They manage to release their 2D Mario games on consoles and sell them like crazy. I see no reason why they can"t do a proper 2D Metroid game for console anymore. Even if the appeal isn't the same as Mario, the point is that they still release simpler forms of their franchises on their home consoles. Metroid needs a proper follow up to Super Metroid. But I doubt it will ever happen... =(

True, but we wouldn't want a NSMB situation either where we see too much of a franchise and it ends up hurting its alluring power.

Wait... Is the situation right now nearly close to a point where we can say there is too much Metroid? O_o
