True. 2D classic on the 3DS and glorious Prime on the U.

They manage to release their 2D Mario games on consoles and sell them like crazy. I see no reason why they can"t do a proper 2D Metroid game for console anymore. Even if the appeal isn't the same as Mario, the point is that they still release simpler forms of their franchises on their home consoles.  Metroid needs a proper follow up to Super Metroid. But I doubt it will ever happen... =(
