Forums - Website Topics - Are Mods Here Paid? Among other questions.

No, they don't get paid.

I do though. I could pretty much make a living out of VGChartz due to taking bribes from ninpie if I wanted to. The other day he offered me $50 to vote for him in the greatest user contest and $20 to write a nice comment on his wall. I'm currently making about $150 a month from him, but if i did everything he asked i could probably make about $400 a month. He pays my car insurance. Thanks pie!

As for the schedule... the Mods try to have at least one person watching the site at all times. (I think) They do that by "hiring" people from different time zones on.

If we were really trying to do that, we would have picked up an Aussie or a Kiwi. As it is, Smeags, Trasharm, and I are on Eastern Standard, Kasz is on Pacific, Kantor on Greenwich Mean, and Barozi on European Standard, so we have a hole stretching through the Far East.

Noted...

I don't see any nice comments on my wall. You're slacking.

Hire me! I am Australian, I am fair and I haven't received a moderation since more than two hours.

Do you get paid on the more "classier" sites such as Vgchartz? If you work for free, why do you do it?

We do what we do for free. I personally do it because this site has given me a lot more than just gaming and sales discussion. I can only hope to give back and perhaps make someone else's experience here as remotely rewarding as what I felt at my prime of activity. Each of us has our own reasons but it all boils down to the fact that we want to make this place better and ensure everyone has a fair voice to share and contribute.

How does it work around your job schedule?

I work 14 hours a day on average. This means that any moderation or actual time I spend at all in the forums (which you'll notice has dramatically decreased this last 8 months since I got my latest full time job) comes out of my sleep schedule. Hopefully this gets people to respect the time I spend on here a little more instead of only coming to me with complaints and petty arguments.

Would you put this on your resume?

Nope. I have a fulfilling and challenging professional life and am always striving to take on more in order to grow. Moderation is strictly a personal labour of love for me. Consider it a hobby... or stress relief

Do all mods have a weekly schedule to ensure that a mod is online at all times, even the 1-6 am. shifts?

We do not have a weekly schedule set in stone for which we mod but our personal lives are fairly stable and so we are usually on and available at fairly consistent times. Usually 2-3 mods will be available at any given time until after 1 am EST (-5 GMT). At that time a few of us will still be on but, due to the quirky ban timer, we're slower to act on reports. What I mean is that the ban timer resets at the same time every day so if a user is given a ban for a day 1 hour before the ban timer resets, the ban will be over in an hour. So we usually wait until we've passed that point before handing out new moderations. This was actually the case for the infamous rant that went on in the selnor fiasco.

Hope this helps shed some light for you.

Thank you very much

Microsoft have all the money, which explains why the unpaid mods hate Microsoft fans.

It makes perfect sense.

Since when??????? I've been an admin on here for more than a year, and was never paid a cent.

Me - "I like how everyone seems to want your job recently. Time for a raise!"

Axum - "Lol. I need it doubled, to 00."

Me - "They pay you -2$?! Go on strike Axum. You deserve more than this!"

Axum - "The mods are [g]oing on strike!"

do you know how math works?
