Forums - Gaming - What is the definition of hardcore games?!

This is a pretty decent definition that I see more and more lately:

(1) Hardcore arranges their schedules around their gaming.
(2) Mid-core arranges their gaming around their daily schedule.
(3) Casual entertains self with games when time presents itself.

games that show penetration

LOL! I swear to god I didn't see this before I posted. I just entered and posted. Good one...

It's all about how you play the games.

Hardcore should have the same meaning for gaming as it has when talking about sports or cooking or programming.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I don't know but I would say monster hunter is pretty hardcore. Sometime it takes me a half hour just to prepare for a battle that takes about 45 minutes to complete. I think super hard games that tend to come out of Japan like mh, demon souls, sin and punishment, alien soldier and the like. I find most games on Xbox to be very straight forward and offer little challenge and they tell exactly what to do. Press b to watch batman punch a hole in the wall, etc..

I think self proclaimed hardcore gamers are snobs, who scoff at the thought that anybody might be playing a different game to what they like. TBH it doesnt matter what game each individual plays, be it COD, Mario, or a game that is perceived to be "shovelware". If they are having fun does it really matter???

PC gamers are the elitists as far as gaming is concerned.

To most 10-13 year old males, the most important thing is that they appear like they're badasses, so they stick the word "hardcore" in front of everything that they can think of that they do, which includes the games they play, typically games that are shallow with lots of blood. 10-13 year olds typically, but also 20-50 year old males who have the awkward social standards and maturity of 10-13 and so are just figuring out how to be badass tweenagers during what should be their adult life.

There isn't actually a such genre as "hardcore game"

Theres no genre, but rather games created for the audience who already understand games and want games tailored to the hobbyist games, featuring elaborate stories to games that present a challenge. Hardcore games= Games not  intentionally made for the casual audience.

By your definition, TV soap operas like Coronation Street and Days of Our Lives are hardcore since they are not made for a casual audience.

Realistically, no one who is sufficiently adult would call something a "hardcore game" with a straight face.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I always thought of it as a game that presented a good challenge. Most games hold your hand all the way through, these days.

4 ≈ One

Someone who spends a lot of time playing videogames on dedicated videogame hardware.

No...when a game is not made for a casual audience it doesnt have broad appeal in its gameplay. For instance, would you have a person who listens to pop music listen to speed metal? No. They like it simple. Most people in the US can barely listen to a song for four minutes because of conditioning and A.D.D. Certain games are just made with the enthusiast gamer in mind before a casual audience.
