But why would you hold to these standards while playing a 14 year old game that released 2 generations ago? And yes it is shallow. SE has shown to be highly incapable of getting FF's out in timely matter..unless it involves lighting in some way. They have FF14, VS, and X all in limbo. They dont need another FF in pipeline for years especially if its wasting resources solely on a graphical remake. Wild Arms: Alter Code F is still the ultimate example of remake. That wasnt a enhanced port. They remade EVERYTHING from the ground up: Updated graphics, rewrote the whole entire script with added stuff they had to exclude the first time, Battle system redone, Music redone, added 3 new characters, more optional sides and bosses and new post game content. Thats resources used wisely. Thats a remake thats worth it. If they want to do something with FF8 I'd ratherdo FF8-2

Wait, you just said that Wild Arms: Alter Code F is a wise remake, including graphics, yet FF8 is not?

I think you're full of it.

Edit: About standards, the basic term used in the industry is graphics that age well, and graphics that don't. Some here said that FFVIII aged better than FFVII, it's just s judgement call on how visually appealing a game remains over time, despite technological upgrades over time. In my tastes, FFI endures the test of time, FFII doesn't, FFIV does, FFV doesn't (my tastes), FFIX does, FFVIII doesn't.

I thought I explained myself pretty well. To waste time remaking FF8 solely for graphically purposes is a waste of time. Now if they are going to take the Alter Code F standard and actually remake the game from the ground up to offer a new experience. Cool. FF8, FF9, FF7 just with better graphics? No we do not need

So what's your opinion on, for example, Final Fantasy Origins? It was, really, a graphical and musical upgrade to the NES games. Replace FFVIII midi with some more modern sound samples, improve the graphics to FFX-level graphics, what the difference between this and that?

But hey, it's your opinion. To me, visuals matter just as much if not at times more than gameplay.

Personally I'd love it, but Square-enix have fallen this gen and barely seem capable of HD ports, let alone remakes. I'm still waiting to see if they manage the HD port of 10 that they announced a year and a half ago. Maybe once their done with the Lightning saga spinoffs and any other ios or flash games they need to get out of their system they can go back to mainline Final Fantasies again =/

I would, but VII takes priority. It's not going to happen.

FF: Origins is a enhanced port. It does nothing to change to actual game. Another good example of a remake is Mega Man vs Mega Man Powered: Graphic overhaul, new art direction, redone music, added voice acting, 3 different styles to Mega Man, 10 extra playable characters bringing a total of 13 different characters to plays as, create and share with a level editor, 3 different difficulties. It wasnt just Mega Man with better graphics. They did something to not only built atop a already fantastic game but to give something fresh for new and old players. What are you requesting? FF8 with better graphics and load times? That's why I say it it shallow. Looking at what the remakes for Wild Arms and Mega Man, I would not be content with SE just do a bare minimal port for a awesome and still awesome game. Give it justice. That's standards.

Nope. Seriously, remakes are a bad idea in every case. Play the game as it was originally intended to be played, because it's a fantastic game and doesn't need to be remade with HD graphics or voice acting, etc.

See, we have a very different value system. Those extras never really sold to me personally.

they're not likely going to stop ios or flash games in the future, because every single one of them pretty much makes a profit. It would be bad business to stop those.

However hopefully the 2 FF's come to fruition FFVersus (I think this game will be bleh anyways), and the rumored FFXV, with itou as director.

I'd rather a final fantasy ix remake, although seeing eyes on me in hd, would be nice :)
