Forums - Gaming - Which do you prefer: JRPG or WRPG?

Which do you like more?

JRPG 133 61.29%

WRPG 62 28.57%

Yo Mama 22 10.14%

Total:217

It depends on the games, but i've always had a soft spot for JRPG's, The problem is the good ones stopped beeing made.

Suikoden, Grandia, Chrono, traditional FF. They were amazing and still are amazing.

With that said i like WRPG's too, but its not the same. I enjoy my Fallout but its an FPS disguised as RPG, i love my Mass effect but its 3rd person shooter disguised as RPG.
I dont exclude any, but if someone asked me wether i prefered a new Fallout/Mass effect or a new Grandia. My answer is gonna be a new Grandia.

I prefer action RPGs like Zelda, Fable, Kings of Amalure and since those are often regarded today as western style that's what I voted for. But I do like Japanese style RPGs as they have become known. My favorites are Panzer Dragoon Saga, Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star IV and Skies of Arcadia. Mass Effect is my current favorite RPG series of any kind.

LOL Fable doesn't even deserve to be said in the same breath as Zelda or Kingdoms of Amalur. What a disappointment of a franchise, I wish Amalur had Fables bullshit hype and sales, because it deserves it more. I swear its far from a perfect world. The ending of Fable 2 still haunts me to this day and three was just...ugh.

What an increadibly rude and uncalled for post. Did anyone ask for your opinion of the Fable games? Do you just go around looking for beloved games to insult? Or do you just troll to troll?

Boy are you sensitive. Its not like I was giving you advice either as to whether you should throw it away,  but I saw two high calibur action RPG's and one that struggles to find identity in every aspect of its existence. This is a forum and replies will happen, if you don't like it then ignore it. I do it when I don't want to reply to things. Must everything be about trolling, rather than thinking it is a whole hearted response?  No wonder you guys always get people banned. Either you respond to the Fable part or your ignore it. This wasnt done to annoy you.

Button mashing JRPGs and turn based JRPGS solely depend upon pure luck to progress a little bit further in the game. WRPGs are far more story driven and open world games. Mass Effect trilogy, Fallout 3, Skyrim and Oblivion were clearly better than FFXIII/XIII-2 and the countless lacklustre JRPGs that were on offer this generation.

Ugh...JRPG's are based off of tactics. They simplified JRPG's this gen in Final Fantasy to please the western audience by allowing action spam.

Good games. I enjoy games in both genres.

I like how in most WRPG's i can customize my avatar, explore to world, make decisions however and whenever i want. But the boring story, the easilly forgotton NPC's and dull combat are the biggest letdown to me.

Most JRPG's handle the storytelling and bond with the characters allot better and the strategic combat just nails it even if it gets repetitive at times. But JRPG's have become very clichéd and the many restrictions get really annoying sometimes.

I like both, both have pros and cons.
WRPG 's are great but i prefer JRPG's.

Precisly, I like my thought out combo strings and dmg calc formulas. Luck is minimal in JRPGs (unless you're a theif class). Even the most button mashing of Jrpgs (Tales) has unision attacks and combo counters.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Exactly. JRPG's took far more thinking and Skill than WRPG's with much moe immersive stories in the PS2 era, bar none. Westerners demand easier gameplay, which is why they take to action RPG's more. They would rather play and be rewarded by reflex action. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is getting so much buzz because its a Final Fantasy with Kingdom Hearts gameplay. Westerners love Kingdom Hearts.

I prefer GRPG. Hopefully, you are with me on this!

Wrpgs by far,the jrpgs I have played have never really hooked me. The one I've played the longest waslost odyssey, managed to grind my way to the fourth disk and gave up

lol Brain fart? Game was amazing. The best JRPG this gen to me aside from the Wii JRPG's from Xenoblade and Last Story.
