Forums - Sales - Will Animal Crossing face the same fate as Nintendogs or Brain Training?

So we all know how well Animal Crossing is doing in Japan. But some part of me can't shake the fact that other regions might not be as accepting of another "casual" title. Nintendogs fell from 24mil sold to a measly 2 million, and I suspect that most of that is pertained to girls who moved from DS's to mobile or FB games.

AC wasn't even that large in NA or EU and 60% of purchasers in JP of AC are female.

I sure don't see many girls carrying around 3DS's yet.

With facebook games like Farmville and mobile others as the replacement for games like AC, might we end up with another gigantic decrease in units sold in regions expect Japan?

Then Id say you don't know the right girls, or the girls are way younger then you and play Animal Crossing :P

I know a couple, but it's not 31%.

I highly doubt it

Animal Crossing is already one of Nintendo's biggest Franchises and will continue to grow IMO.

Animal Crossing is bigger than Zelda at this point

Since Nintendogs and Brain Training failed in Japan as well as in the West, I don't see why AC would sell at a breakneck pace in Japan and flop in the West.
I see it doing fine. Much better than the DS one even in the West.

AC has indeed grown into one of Nintendo's largest, but I highly doubt if it holds the same prestige as Zelda does.

In terms of reviews, Internet forums, and Core gamers, Zelda is definitely the more respected and liked franchise.

in terms of sales & overall fanbase size, Animal Crossing is very close to overtaking Zelda Worldwide and should within this next generation. (3DS & Wii U)

Can't argue with that, 3DS AC will beat 3DS zeldas no doubt. On the WiiU however....I think that the appeal of an HD Zelda will be too much.

AC sales have been dropping in the west. GC AC sold better than Wii AC and Wii version was released Holidays 2008 when Wii was exploding.

I don't think Zelda 3D has any chance of outselling Animal Crossing New Leaf...at all.

Since Wii U is Nintendo's most powerful System ever by far, all their Franchises could see big enhancements. Zelda U could definitely be big but AC should improve a ton too. Imagine the potential of an online Animal Crossing world with updated HD graphics, AI improvement for the towns people, and a ton of detail. AC could benefit more from the extra power than Zelda...

An online animal crossing would be awesome, but isn't Animal Crossing a single player game? Or do you mean like having a multiplayer server similar to minecraft with each person having their own house.

My God I just realized how powerful of a system seller this would be with older women.Holy crap. You all work together to build like a little town. If that ever happens I'm getting that.

It won't fall like Nintendogs or Brain Training. Sales may decrease, but the DS was a monster where it appealed to many demographics which inflated most of its software. So it really depends on the 3DS hardware numbers and its appeal.

That said, Animal Crossing has its hardcore fan base, and it shows with the amazing Japanese numbers. It also has a big fan base in the US, so it should sell well there as well. My only oncern is EU, but really the main market is Japan, and from the looks of it, it's doin quite well so no!
