I'm with you in this.  But MS and Sony will definetely fight for the right of making bundles for this game.

So you'll hold off on GTA V, The Last of US, God of War Ascension, Gears of War Judgement all because new systems come out 6 to 8 months later? Some of the best games on PS2 came out close to PS3's release or even after it came out (God of War II, Okami, Final Fantasy XII).

Backwards compatibility is not guaranteed either (especially on PS4).

Bro GTA hasn't been all that lately. In fact, Saints Row 3 took the win in my eyes. It was a blast playing it and it was funny. GTA has been a "drag." God of War has been a "drag" game to.

I was excited getting the PS3 only because of Metal Gear 4 and I dont see Rising earning any crowns from what I hear. I have to wait on that. For your info (TBD) means to be determined that's why I put it there. Final Fantasy I laugh at. I've been playing wow for 6 years.

My favorite horror game to this day still has been FEAR 1 & FEAR 2. FEAR 3 is complete shit. The Last of us is a wait. Dont even know if it will be spectacular as people make it seem to be or it possibly can. Still have to wait.

*I am more excited about the consoles that will be released this year (rumor) than the software atm.

Shouldn't be a problem. X360 will likely take it at first but not in the long run.

I remember people claiming that GTAIV 360 would outsell the PS3 version 2:1 LTD. Considering we are 5 years on and PS360 gap is negligible i'd say it is almost a foregone conclusion GTAV will sell better on PS3 LTD. http://www.vgchartz.com/game/7102/grand-theft-auto-iv/

They are only 500k apart and that was from a time when
a) the 360 had still a massive lead
b) the PS3 was expensive as hell and no one could have afford it

Back then in the US (the biggest market by FAR for GTA):

360 9.7m

PS3 4.7m

Now:

360 38.8m

PS3 23.8m

 

So I dont think the install base back then tells us anything at all. 

The install bases for both is much much higher. It can go either way. 

But given the game, given the demographic and given the US install base of the 360... I say a 360 win.


I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.  According to your numbers PS3's US market share (strictly versus 360) has grown:  32.6% has increased to 38.0%

 

EDIT: Or have I done some math wrong because PS3 gaining market share in US doesn't seem correct?

Those are all the big releases of next year that are coming out months before next generation that are parts of big selling/high rating franchises. Final Fantasy isn't even one of them, that was about last generation, high rated games that came out very late. Metal Gear Rising is being made by Platinum Games who made Bayonetta which is the best action game of the generation.

That goes two ways, Xbox may have more of a market share in Europe since the tracked data is inaccurate. Besides, GTA's biggest market is the US.

 

But, it doesn't matter. As long as the game sells well on both platforms, im happy.

Well considering the ps3 version of GTA IV outsold the 360 version by 13k this year and after this week's sales will actually most likely be below the 360 version for the year, there is absolutely no chance the ps3 version of GTA IV will catch up to the 360 version.

And that 360 exclusive comment is ridiculous. If anything most people probably thought the ps3 version would be the one getting all the extra features considering rockstar's relationship with sony during the previous generation.

The simple fact that the 360 version of GTA IV is ahead of the ps3 version is crazy. It would be comparable to Nintendo getting a Halo game ported on the wii that manages to outsell the 360 version. 95% of the GTA fanbase was playing on the playstation 2 and it still managed to sell better on the 360.

As for GTA V, I think it will depend on who gets exclusive content. Assassin's Creed III showed us that "exclusive content" can actually skew games towards a specific console. Especially considering how many people probably own both consoles already.

clearly GTA is still very strongly associated with playstation. i dont think anyone will forget playing GTA3 for the first time on their ps2's and than san andreas aswell.
