NES Versus PC Engine and Sega Master System;, Gameboy Versus PC Express and Atari Jaguar, Gameboy Color versus Neo Geo Pocket Color, Gameboy Advance Versus N-Gage, DS ( all iterations) versus PSP, Wii Versus 360 and Playstation 3, 3DS versus Vita and IOS, and Android Devices, Wii U versus Orbis and Durango.  In all those instances Nintendo had the inferior technology.

The only times they've had comparable or better technology were Super Nintendo ( lacked external CD-Rom Drive), N64 ( lacked CD-Rom Drive)  Gamecube ( lacked DVD).

I think you meant a different, quite smaller cat :D

In all, or almost all instances you're referring to, Nintendo launced first, so naturally competition had slightly more powerful hardware, but nothing so drastically different as Wii/PS360 (even DS/PSP don't count since DS is a significant upgrade power-wise over GBA). So if anything Nintendo far outlasted competition in handful of the situations you listed despite not being technologically superior. Here goes down your entire point you're trying to make.

Something kept Wii from being able to get a 50% marketshare this time out versus the HD Twins.  Must have had something to do with the third parties preferring the Twins since, like their next iterations are going to be, they were quite a bit more powerful than Wii.

did the sony or microsoft win the generation? lmfao Nintendo must be doing something right

If you want to group Wii in with the 7th gen consoles, which ones are still selling?

Wii is selling pretty decently despite no support from nintendo or 3rd parties, with the fact its successor is already out, plus it has already sold 98.6 million. Quite an amazing achievement. lmfao

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

There are two possible ways for Microsoft and Sony next-gen:

1: They will release an ultra powerful console, therefore so expensive no one's gonna buy it, certainly not in these days. Also, powerful consoles demand for beautiful games which are too expensive for most companies nowadays to make a profit on it.

2: They will release a more casual platform with forced casual games and accessories like the Kinect and Move. But casual gamers already lost interest in gaming after the Wii. Also not gonna work for them.

Why are these to only two options? The first option is an extreme, the second is getting there. Why not a moderately powerful console with a focus on hardcore gaming, but tries to cater to the casual audience as well?

Those are the only two options because the market that Sony and Microsoft own expect MUCH more from them the next generation in terms of specifications, graphics, online and power. At least when you hear the negativity about Wii U being underpowered.

IF they make a console not much powerful than Wii U, then Wii U will get third party ports and get the core-gamers back.

If they release a $399 console that just comes with a basic controller (DS3) you can guarantee it's going to have quite a jump over the wiiu, Nintendo bundling such an expensive controller severely decreases the amount of cost that can be spent on hardware componenets.

Even if it's somehow only a little bit more powerful than the wiiu don't expect nintendo to have the hardcore crowd back. Online services and  hardcore exclusive franchises are very important to gamers too. As of now I still think XBL and PSN are better than the Nintendo Network and you can guarantee they will advance with the introduction of a new console.

If you look at the history of Nintendo and their consoles, you see that they tend to release new consoles that lag behind in technology, (..)

This is all I read. Why? The first sentence is already wrong. They launched a system which lagged behind in technology (power-wise at least) only once.

OT (judging from the title): No, not until at least 2017.

NES Versus PC Engine and Sega Master System;, Gameboy Versus PC Express and Atari Jaguar, Gameboy Color versus Neo Geo Pocket Color, Gameboy Advance Versus N-Gage, DS ( all iterations) versus PSP, Wii Versus 360 and Playstation 3, 3DS versus Vita and IOS, and Android Devices, Wii U versus Orbis and Durango.  In all those instances Nintendo had the inferior technology.

Blahblahblah. All were in the same ballpark.

Lagging behind =/= slightly less powerfull than their competitor (and ahead of others I might add). Lagging behind happened only once.

The PC Express could play 8 / 16 bit games on the go, the PSP was dramatically more powerful than DS as is the Vita to 3DS, the 360 and PS3 are dramatically more powerful than Wii as most likely will be the next Microsoft and Sony consoles in comparison to Wii U, so it's happened quite a bit more than once.

Yet the NES was more powerful than the 7800 so it seems like it's right in the middle to me. GameBoy was able to run ports of the other handhelds of the time anyway and was also 8-bit. GameBoy Advance blew everyone out of the water. PSP ports were also on DS and that definitely goes for 3DS; for all the supposed power, Vita hasn't shown a lot compared to 3DS.

The only time it was impossible to run same-gen games on a Nintendo system was on the Wii. Thus, this 'lagging behind' happened only one time. The lagging behind is debatable anyway, if anything PS360 were lagging behind in control scheme at the start if last gen. I mean, they were still using 5th gen tech!

When you have more than one console you are bound to have a console that's more powerful than the other. If the NES was lagging in power, does that mean all but the most powerful system are lagging in power? Again, lagging behind =/= slightly less powerful.

And now you're trying to change the subject of a post I was commenting (not the OP).

Well the main point of my op was that the next gen will see third party support play out like this gen only with the hd twins having considerably more power (once again) and much more reasonable prices to boot (the one thing they lacked).  Since Wii U won't be viable after 2014 when all the Next Gen's Big Third Party games will be on 720 and PS4 causing the 2014 holiday sales to mirror the 2012 ones, I really think you'll see Nintendo releasing another stop gap measure in 2015.

Put a poll up for the thread and I bet you there will be

95% or more that say no

Does the OP even have a clue what he is talking about? The laughable thing is he is trying to prseent it as fact. Arguably the most ill-thought out fact ever lol. So much wrong i don't even know where to begin. Anyone with an ounce of sense would know companies just don't bring out a completely new console half way through the current ones' life. Also it shows complete ignorance saying each new ds upgrade is a completely new console and as history proves did Nintendo no harm at all. Sure HW has been weaker but has this harmed sales in any way? I think not.
Comparing handhelds in the OP is stupid too, as Nintendo has never even been threatened in this market so how can you possibly criticise?
As for the next xbox and Ps being more powerful, do you have a crystal ball or are you perhaps one of the higher-ups in Sony and you know their financial situation better than anyone here?
Perhaps you should stick to posting on things you know about.... Re. NOTHING!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Your "once again" has been proven wrong outside of Wii/PS360 scenario. And nothing as of now suggest that scenario will repeat since chances are high nextgen won't have much power over Wii U (check this). This by no means guarantee Wii U will be a viable platform, depends on how Nintendo and 3rd parties will handle it, there're multiple ways to screw it up. But as a hardware it certainly viable for 3rd party ports or whatever fits the demand. Once again, here goes your entire point, Nintendo won't launch new hardware in 2 or 3 years even it fails completely.

GC failed as hard as it could possibly be for Nintendo (not due to hardware or lack of DVD drive as you've suggested), and even then it took 5 years before successor's release.

Depends on the sales. If the WiiU fails then of course they will release a new console, but so far sales have been ok, so I see no need.

And there is your mistake, even though the Wii was way underpowered and it lacked the support of the third party it took more than 4 years to lose sales, because it was killing from 2006-2010, even if you take the worst case scenario and say that this time the sales will never be as high and the decrease cames faster (only 3 years after the PS4 or Next Xbox release) that would mean at least 2016 for the decline.

And all predictions say that in 2017-2018 we will see a new console from Nintendo. So NO, Nintendo will not release a new home cosole in the next 2 to 3 years, it will do it between 2017-2018 like it usually do with 5 years cycle.
