Also, I'm curious why they don't just put armed police officers in schools.

I could of swore my school had armed police officer.

Maybe there holster was empty though, never really cared about guns.

wouldn't that be "big government", though? better to let a private corporation handle that

No.  Why would it be?

Besides, private companies don't really have the needed legitamicy to act in a situation in which a school shooting happens.

The slightest thing goes wrong, and even if he saves people, the person doing so will be targeted and hated by a large part of the community.

Those aren't mass spree killings.

Those are total murders that happened to happen at a school.  That's a whole different and much more common thing.  (everywhere.)

You aren't fact checking so much as fact twisting/fabricating.

See edit. Table of recent shootings for you.

(because  I can't be bothered to look through a list of 77 school-related shootings to sort out those that fit the narrow criteria)

hint.  If you do look through it.  You'll see it's about 60 total mass shootings in the last 20 years for ALL areas.  Not just schools.

I got that number from the great right wing conspiracy machine known as Mother Jones.

Believe me... mother Jones isn't going to understate the number, because they want to ban guns more then pretty much any group who'd bother to figure out about how many mass shootings have happened in the last 30 years.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're saying 'all areas'? And what are you counting as 'mass shootings' here, is that the reason for having such a lower figure?

I just did 'look through it' and  I count 76 school shootings going back to 2000, so 76 in 12 years.

No media outlet even tries to explain why.. No of them even ask why... Weird

I'll break it down for you.

Teacher goes into a school with a gun.  Shoots antoher teacher.   Is arrested.

That would count as a school shooting.   That kind of thing isn't as rare as you would think anywhere.

A Mass killer is like in this case.  Where the person tries to kill a bunch of people.  Such cases are very rare to where Per capita compairsons are useless... since anytime a country like Finland or Norway have one... they suddenly shoot so far over the US it'd make your head spin.

Consider it this way.  60 shooters in a population of 300 million.  Or 1 shooter in a population of 5 million.

The first sounds a lot worse right... 60!

They're the exact same ratio.  I mean honestly, a country like Germany probably has a higher ration then the US, as they've had a few mass killings in the last 30 years or so and a much smaller population.

As someone who works in A LOT of schools I see a police officer in every school middle and up. I never see any in any elementary school or kindergarten.

Fair enough.  I hadn't considered that.

Though that does show a problem doesn't it?

The Police aren't there to protect the children from harm.  They are there to watch the children.

Probably because there is no explanation of any merit for something like this.

Right as I thought, what you're saying is your numbers were only accounting for 'mass shootings' where a large number of people are killed, whereas my ones were blanket 'school shootings' figures that count every shooting at a school.

Understood. So.

76 school shootings in the US in 12 years

60 mass shootings in the US in 30 years, from your source

I'm going to have to compare these figures to other country's now!

Though if anyone cares about actual causes rather then straw man arguments back and forth. That's one to consider.

Again with the numbers being so low, it's hard to find a pattern with any statistical certainty.

The Economic downturn would be a likely possibility... again assuming it's not just random.
