Wow Nintendo just cant get a break on this site eh? So Wii U sells more on opening week than PS3 and 360, yet people are disappointed? Not to mention lots of the Wii U sales went to PS360 because of BLACK OPS 2!!!....What the hell do you haters what/expect from Nintendo???? Most of the "disappointed" members of this are not planning on getting WII U anyway. This site is headed towards N4G in the worst kind of way.

The PS3 was 600 freaking dollars and the 360 was supply constrained to hell (probably in part because MS effectively launched a 2006 piece of tech in 2005, so the manufacturing yields must've been awful).

So better than those two isn't really a big deal. The impressive thing about the PS3/360 is how long of a tail they've had as platforms with 6-7+ year life cycles and continuing to put up solid numbers well past year 5.

I'm kinda indifferent to Wii U sales right now. They're not terrible, but they're not spectacular either. They're passable. I worry about the system next year though, especially in the Jan-June months.

well it didn't do Wii numbers but it did way better than the other HD consoles and that's impressive!

I'm in between honestly. I think the sales are good but not stellar.

And people bashing it, please get a life. Xbox 360 was launched prior to the recession and failed to sell decent numbers until 2009.

Nintendo haters' logic: 1) If Wii U doesn't exceed Wii's record, Wii U flopped. PS360 have YET to catch up with Wii and probably never will, are you calling them a flop too? 2) If Wii U doesnt exceed PS360 weekly figures now, it's Doomed, because nobody can argue Wii U doesn't compete with PS360. Then by the same token, Nintendo Consoles Wii + Wii U still stack up quite nicely against the LastGenHD twins no? 3DS + DS blow PSP + PSV away no? Wii + Wii U + DS + 3DS is far and away more than any of those two no? Competing for Video Game hardware and software dollars, Nintendo is STILL King of the Hill.

Nintendo is the only pure gaming company that does nothing but video games. Why the hate? Nintendo doesn't have the financial resources of a MSFT to just copy what others do and try ruining the true innovators' market, but is MSFT a villain to gaming? Had it not for the HDTwin > Wii market MSFT helped created, Sony's desperate sell awesome gadget at a loss strategy would have lost even more money due to lack of 3rd party economy of scale. Nintendo being a pureplay, and without the billions of revenue from other profit centers simply cannot, will not and should not play the loss leader game. As gamers, we want to see all viable forms of gaming prosper, and blossom under healthy competition. It's fun to hate as a fan, but bickering over what is or isnt successful, or looking down on Nintendo as if they simply don't get gaming is just downright stupid. What have YOU, Mr Nintendo crtic done in your life that is anywhere near as inspiring, successful or globally impactful as Nintendo?

Before you pull the iPad is killing everybody, especially Nintendo anyway, speech. Realize this, every Angry Bird or Zynga "player" is now a potential "gamer. 'Till this day there are still people who think TV makes you stupid..but TV is perhaps the most prevalent form of entertainment today. Were the movie industry's fears justified? No, TV saved Movies! Marvel almost died until Pixar and Dreamworks, etc made what was once good, awesome again.

Video Gaming in the form of mobile devices, dedicated consoles, PCs, Cloud, are in the short run competing vs one another, but the net userbase is GROWING like gangbusters. Why the despair and doom? Sit back and enjoy and see every little kid or grown person, sliding their fingers across their iphones or android devices as noobs that will soon enjoy the world of immersive gaming! I own iPhones, Ipads, Gaming PC, xbox 360, PS3, Wii AN Wii U, and the DSxxxxxs. Wii U has a definite niche in bringing the family together again. And yes, my kids begging yet hiding under a blanket to see me smash the zombis with a cricket bat WILL be lasting memories in their gaming lives.

Wait a sec. I'm not a native speaker, so I may have this all wrong. What does impressed even mean? Say someone is a fan and predicted 2m and then saw the sales, should he be impressed?
What if someone was more realistic and made a very accurate prediction? Should he be impressed?

Why is everyone a hater if they were not impressed?

Does anyone remember the reports we were getting about the enormous pre-order numbers in the US which turned out to be less than the actual sales in the end? Sure, it might have sold out, but are you impressed based on your expectations?

As a ps3/ninty fan I have never owned a 360 nor do I care about Halo, Gears, Forza. However, I have admitted that I've been hugely impressed with the kinect sales.

The 3ds sales after the price cut were also very impressive.

The WiiU sales on the other hand, for now are not impressive. Maybe in a couple of weeks they will be. For now, they are good, at least in my opinion.

How so? It's doing better than the ps3 and 360. Far better step down from the dominating ps2 era to the abysmal launch of the ps3. Given the market isn't to strong either it's doing quite fine and it hasn't launched in Japan yet.
